I found these pictures of my old 84 Jeep Cherokee while packing and I thought I would start an old ride thread so here it goes.
I got this XJ when I was 15. It was a bone stock Pioneer model that my father had bought brand new back in 83. It was a pre-Chrysler model and a pain in the ass to find accessories for back then. I brought it to the Mud Hole to get a lift kit for it and they told me to sell it and buy a real Jeep, thankfully Trail Master and Rancho came out with 4" kits to get me started. I had it from 89-94 during that time I modified it over and over with an end result of 4:56 gears, lockers front & rear, custom coil & leaf springs, air bags, Hooker super competition headers with turnouts under the door, 35" x 15 Super Swampers on 8.5" x 15" Craiger aluminum rims, fenders cut 2-3", a weber carb, Wet Okole seat covers, and more stereo equipment than should be legal. It would barely break 60mph with a strong tail wind but I still drove it back and forth from Florida to Nola routinely. The pictures below show the various stages of lifts and accessories I installed and the last photos show it the week I sold it. Before you ask yes it could turn just fine with only mild contact on the front lower control arms and I abused this poor Jeep. The final pics show it with it's third paint job. I had never heaqrd of rock crawling back then and this thing spent 95% of it's time climbing sand dunes and in mud holes out near Eglin Air Force base. It was the only 4 wheel drive I owned and wheeled until I bought my FJ which I am now anxious to get started again.
