I was takin apart an axle just to have spare parts of everything. I noticed that there was RTV silicone on everything. I can deal with that until the cone washers. They would not budge. Tried everything. Brass hammers, air tools etc etc. WHAT KIND OF EVIL BASTARD PUTS RTV SILICONE ON THE CONE WASHERS??? Three hours later they came off with a lot of violence. Tomorrow will be fun. Doing the rear axles :bang:

Is there any reason why one would put RTV on that? Or use RTV instead of gaskets on everything else?

1. I don't have gaskets but I do have this handy tube of RTV...

2. Water intrusion is bad. Water might get behind the cone washers. = using RTV on the cone washers ...

Hard to argue with logic:bang:. Glad you finally got them off.

I stopped asking "why did..." when it comes to thinks the PO did.

My rear window motor didnt work when I got the truck opened it up and found a Toyota window motor installed. Toyota....but not for a fzj80. Didnt fit....just drill new holes in the mounts and make it fit.

Im slowly going through the entire truck and putting stuff back where its supposed to go. Not an easy job.
