What all that money and no front locker?
He must fear running out of gas more than a busted front diff.

His truck has a lot of thought put into it is looks great for the age. Info is outdated in the article. His truck changes every time his inventory does. At least at CM last year he was sporting a lot of different products, bumped the tires down to 295 ATs among other things.

Agree he needs a front locker but Paul is also more of the Expo/Overlanding type. But If I was going to take my truck to central america/baja etc a front locker would be a high priority for reliability's sake.

Equipt's Land Cruiser 100 Series

Here is a more up to date build thread. It is a very impressive build. Id wager that aside from Spressomon, nobody in the US has wheeled a 100 series for as long or as hard as Paul. Also, FYI he is in South America right now in his 100 series that has over 230,000 miles on it.

guatemala or belize. not quite south america. i've been witness to a lot of paul's use and abuse of that truck and it has held up very, very well. i've even had the pleasure of rallying it early in his ownership. he recently pulled the TJM rear to install an ARB with dual spares and replaced his aux tank as it had a small weaping leak. both now reside on my truck. knowing paul is a good thing.

I saw that this guy lost his 2UZ engine last month. Something about cylinder #6 failing. Only 250k miles... kind of surprised.

For the usage this truck has seen, I'm not. Just prior to the new motor Paul was in Central America with the truck for 2 months. It's been around. I need to get details from him on what happened exactly. It was running rough, turned out not to be a coil pack, and he replaced the motor with a lower mile engine.

It would be interesting to know the type/brand of oil and if he used premium gas the majority of the engine life... probably has nothing to do with the failure, but details behind this story drive the curiosity.

No 1,400 mile range. He would have to get 19mpg plus. I have the same tank and am lucky to get 1,000. Doesn't really matter though as you would need a catheter to go that long.

An engine swap out is significant and atypical for a 2UZFE, especially with relatively lower miles

From what I remember with the motor, Paul had been chasing a noise, thought it was a coil pack, turned out not to be. I want to say it was an issue with one cylinder, maybe the rings and some scoring. This was at 250k miles, so in typical Paul fashion rather than band-aid the problem, he replaced the motor to ensure he wouldn't have immediate future problems. It was coming up on potential rebuild time anyway.

Sounds like the truck is sold, full price offer within 2 hours of posting.

but would you consider it safe to take that truck on a 1,000 mile trip? please share your stories............again. ;)

I would not attempt it. Paul has been tempting fate for 12 years now. It's only a matter of time before the next person gets burned.
