I am considering installing a basic 2" lift kit for the time being to go along with bigger tires on the stock wheels simply to improve the stance and look of the LC until I can get around to justifying a full on build in a few years once momma has grown tired of it and allows me to go crazy with the build. I am usually of the mindset of buy once, cry once and would forgo this purchase altogether holding off until I am allowed to do it right and do it one time. But momma made me promise to leave the vehicle "relatively stock" lol and she's only requested bigger AT tires which I hope I can accomplish along with sneaking in a simple 2" lift at the same time.

For those of you who currently have or who have owned 200's with a simple OME, Bilstein or Dobinsons kit what are your thoughts? Was the ride quality compromised over stock, did it settle over time, did it handle your gear and payloads and remain a reliable kit? Have you moved on and upgraded to a top tier kit like King's, BP-51's, etc. and if so was the juice worth the squeeze? If you had to do it all over again would you have stayed with the economical basic option? For those of you still running an entry level kit, is there a reason why you've chose to stick with it and forgo the upgrade to a pricier kit? Thanks in advance for any insight or opinion.

I'm running an OME lift, I didn't see the need to pay double for the fancy kits and things I wouldn't use. I'm happy with my kit and it handles really well. Regular driving I like how its firmer than my tired suspension used to be, along with no nose dive anymore under braking. I don't think I'll ever upgrade to the adjustable kits or ones with bypass, the type of wheeling I do is slow and technical. Only thing I'd do different next time around is have gotten the new ARB UCA as well.

The stock suspension is actually pretty decent. See if you can find some takeoffs and throw on some factory front spacers. Just get tires that fit without major rubbing, and you are golden.

That being said, I've had several kinds of suspensions on my cruisers: stock, OME nitrocharger, Bilstein, Kings. All worked well, and if you're not looking to do anything outrageous with it, any will be fine.

In my opinion, suspension is a case of you get what you pay for - the high end costs more for a reason.

Curious about your thoughts about Kings vs. Bilsteins! On 200?

@unclemat - Sorry, I had the OME on two different 80 series, the Bilsteins on a 100 series and the Kings and stock takeoffs on a 200 series, so I can't make an apples to apples comparison between the Bilsteins and Kings on a 200.

I have Bilstens on the Taco (stock): fronts are based on 9100 series, rears are 5160s. Like them a lot. But decided on Kings for the 200, haven't installed them, so no experience yet.

I agree that you get what you pay for and I've run Kings and high end Fox on other vehicles and I can see the difference. I have no lift experience with the 200 in regards to a lift so I thought I'd reach out seeing how there's such a varying range of builds on here and many who have had or still do own more than one. I figure if I go with the OME or Bilstein kit for now it'll simply be a stop gap move until I am ready to do version 2.0 of the build. Does anyone have a set of the 10mm front spacers or a part number for them?

You might find @mcgaskins thoughts interesting as to his suspension choice for his new build.

I went through the same cost/benefit/time/wants/needs/bride calculus you are going through and went with the Dobinsons 2” lift, with SPC UCAs. I thought the stock suspension floated too much creating a wallowing effect. I wasn’t expecting it but the Dobinsons lift fixed that. I have put about 5k miles on it since putting on the lift and haven’t seen any settling yet. Just bought a fifth RW last week and after I get done wrestling with getting the trim rings off and polished up, we’ll see how it feels with slightly larger tires, etc.

You could also do rear trim packers, but those spacers listed above are specific to the fronts.

Unless you really need a lift, I wouldn’t do it. I had OME lift on one of my LC 200s and hated it.

Much prefer stock.

For what reasons specifically? It seems most suggested the Bilstein kit over the OME, they claim it has a better ride.

Truck felt loose, top heavy, less stable.
I drive like a mad man at times, I confess.

So this could be slightly subjective lol?!

I volunteer you to do a YouTube video series where you instrument and test all of the suspensions back to back on the exact same route and set of conditions. Maybe you can get the vendors to give you a set of suspension to evaluate? I'd subscribe.
