I found this ad on local CL:
12,000 lb Engo winch

It looks like a solid 12K winch - just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with these?! Search on this site didn't produce any results.

I just opened the box of a E10000 and the thing looks beefy and well made. I have not installed it yet and only have the reports on here to go by.

I think it is worth the money, and will be better than nothing when you are stuck.

Post up a review after you get it on. Imthinking at that price i can fill my bumper!!

I'm sure they are the best winch ever because a magazine said so. I don't think a Chinese winch would go very well with a land cruiser and a diesel benz. Time will tell. I personally prefer a winch that will last me for 40 years and can be rebuilt (and one that I can count on when I need it).

If you do your homework you can get very high-quality products from China. Its all about controlling quality. Apple figured this out years ago.

I'll go toe-to-toe with any "American Made" winch on construction, design, quality of parts and pricepoint.

The big "American" winch companies are coming to terms with the fact that it is 2012 and that we live in a global economy. In order to be profitable and competitive, you have to juggle materials sourcing, manufacturing, design, support, distribution, etc. and the best values in these categories are not necessarily stateside anymore.

One like my Warn can be rebuilt (motor) and the planetary set has a lifetime warranty. I haven't seen a Chinese one that is worth rebuilding.

The short term pricepoint argument would be valid. The poor people that build these things are treated like garbage. But, it's not in your backyard, so you don't have to see or hear about it. If the Nazis had one for $20 cheaper, would you buy it?

I prefer quality, as most Land Cruiser people do.

You think a Warn is higher quality then say the Titan T12? I have pics of the guts for comparison and it appears as though more design thought as well as better materials were put into the Titan. With money being no object, I would have purchased the Titan over a Warn after thoroughly researching both of them. The groupthink attitude of "WARN rules and everything else sucks" needs to go away. It simply is not true. You see threads all the time from Warn owners with barely any wear and tear on the winches opening them up to find corrosion and seized parts. Warn is even going global. They assemble their winches in the US but the same people slaving to make your Macbooks and Nikes are getting carpal tunnel syndrome fabricating your Warn components. Nothing personal but the Warn elitest attitude is a bit off-putting.

I will conceded that their customer support is better and that in general, they make a decent product.

Any feedback on this? I just bought an E12000 from MetalTech on sale for $359 with free shipping. It comes with 85'x3/8" wire, remote, and a roller fairlead. You simply cannot go wrong with a deal like that, but I'd like to know if anyone except the 4x4 rags has tested it.

That price does not include the rope, right?

85' of 3/8" cable plus hook.

That statement and your attitude my friend is exactly why our economy is failing...... its really sad.

yes it is 2012 and we do live in a global economy. America is a huge part of that global economy, HUGE. our economy fails others crumble with it. :meh: America needs jobs. Period.

Maybe you should move to china. i my self will keep buying american.

The delivered prices of the Engo winches, coupled with how well they have performed in both subjective and objective tests in two different reviews/winch shootouts, really make them tempting.

I found a good working 8274 locally, and I ended up getting it for $250.

Although I am confident it will have parts available for it for as long as I'll own it, it was still pretty difficult to pass on the demonstrated capabilities and overall toughness of the Engos ....... all at a price that is just so ridiculously low, in favor of the 32 year old 8274 ........even with it being something like ~$100 less than a delivered 9000lb Engo!

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but everyone should know that I recently got back my ipod after a recall because they started to catch fire. I'm not saying that this is the fault of the company that manufactures them in China, but I just have to point this out to people that tout Apple as the pinnacle of manufacturing slickness. Also, not everything is perfect in Apple's manufacturing chain in China. They do use child labor.

I have a Engo on order from MT as well. And am looking forward to it.

Engo matches Warn's warranty.

Most of Warn's winches are Hecho in China now a days. 90% of getting something good from China is knowing how to get the best QA/QC from there.

I am really looking forward to the Engo winch. As soon as I have it on I'll go play with it. Hopefully by Cruise Moab.

I like Warn winches and have one as well. But honestly, I'd rather fork out $400 on an Engo than spend $2,456 on a new 8274. (Warn Industries - Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: M8274-50) I could outfit 6 trucks with winches for a single 8274. I love how fast they are but hell, that's a lot of winches...

Yes they can be found used, but I do not have the time or desire to run around looking for one.

I'll be putting mine on within the next 2 weeks. I also got a nose guard and stinger from MT, and I want to integrate a custom winch plate into the install. As soon as I get to try it out, I will post a report.

It would be great to see the report. For a new winch brand, it's always interesting to test.
And here you can see another winch brand Wongs 2 speed winch, which is a new winch name.
