Carb solenoid doesn't function at all. I've only got 2.4 miles on my 99.9% new 77 fj40 and am now working on details and bug hunting. The carb solenoid doesn't click at all with direct lead from battery to the solenoid wire. Before a take the solenoid off for inspection, any suggestions?

Thanks, Mitch in Cucamonga.

mschliebs, sorry but I'm not much of a help on here about the cut off but it sounds like you need a new solenoid. It makes a pretty solid click that is easy to hear when functioining right.

Tore apart my old ignition switch and.... yup, that thing was toast inside, worn bad. Got a new one coming to replace it. Has anybody squirted a big dab of dielectric grease in there to keep the contacts lubed and shorting down to a minimum?? just a thought I had.

To remove carb ICS, first remove 12mm hex bolt for AP rocker arm & lay AP over against VC.
Remove ICS w/ 12mm open end. Test it with a known good 12V power source (fully charged & DVOM-ed 12.8V battery, etc.).

If it works, reinstall and figure out where carb is losing either 12V ignition signal, or ground circuit.

If it doesn't work, test with DVOM for continuity. If good, try squirtiung solvent or carb cleaner in end, and poke in the end with a tiny wire or drill, to perhaps free up the tiny stuck plunger.

Thanks for the ideas. I thought about the dialectic grease. Tested the continuity and that is NOW good accept that with the key turned off there is a constant 12 volt to the solenoid. And, to confound things even more, if I hot wire to the DUI it starts right up. Wonder if a 2X4 would help? :bang: On the plus side though, the fuses aren't burning out.
