OBD again and see if problem persists with same codes/same cyl. Did you happen to move the original pack to another cylinder? Are you still onm the road or home yet?

[orig response]
Simple job for you. 2 hours is probably their minimum "touch it" labor rate cost. While you have the top cover off, cleaning the MAF & TB are also easy tasks that will yield a little more regain in performance & lots of posts on those as well. Spark plugs? Meh. Could if you want. I changed Beastie's at 170K and they looked new (these had ~80K milage). Woulda put the originals back in 'cept I had the new ones. You'll be amazed at how simple these items are to complete and (relatively) how fast these are accomplished, especially on the road/away from home.

Sry to hear that man
General direction of arotrhd is right, just a thought ,try to see if your fuel pump makes any noises like a buzzing noise , your fuel pump might be running on its last leg

You guys rock.

Any recommendations in regards to a book I should have on hand for these sort is simple yet important issues?

Still on the road and will be until second week of June. 5 weeks...

Well unfortunately I think I have to retract my last statement. The reason I originally the problem was not fixed was because I felt the engine shake within the dirt 2 minutes after starting it.

After that however, nothing. Drive for about 100 mile and all seemed fine.

Today however the rough idle that first initiated the problem returned. Giving it a bit of gas increase the rough idle but then smooth out with higher rpm.

Thoughts?

Just to recap everything:

Engine shake at idle progressed into major intermittent shake at speed. Hard misfire happened a couple of times.

Codes were for random misfire and misfire on cylinder 2.

Code p1128 was also found

Replaced plug and coil for cylinder 2
Cleaned throttle body

Problem remains unsolved

My truck had the identical symptoms. Was not actually a bad coil pack but bad plug. Change all the plugs. Wouldn't hurt. Might get your peppy-ness back. I for one, have never thought my truck was peppy. But, I suppose compared to the Amish guy with two horsepower, I'm a rocket ship.

Thanks for the response. I changed the plug on what was supposed to be the bad cylinder.

The strange thing here is that after doing so it ran fine for about 100 miles before acting up again. Once it started though, it doesn't take 2 miles before I get the misfire like behavior again.

Obviously changing out all the plugs is easy enough, the the one I did change looked like it really didn't need it. But I'm concerned that this may be a bigger problem and I am starting suspect fuel injectors.

Any thought?

Might be a pain but how about you swap injectors between the hole reporting the misfire and a cylinder on the other bank? That might help identify or rule out the injectors without going for the full clean or replace. The fact that the plug helped for a little while could indicate an injector issue.

I think that may be exactly what is going on. The CEL light came back on again today finally. On e again it was a 0302 code. This indicates a misfire on the same cylinder I already changed the coil pack and plug on. The only thing else I can think of is the injector...

Ok. So while I was waiting for someone to squeeze me in to check the injector, I went ahead and took others advice on her to pick up a OBD scanner.

Re ran the codes for myself this time and received this:
P0300
P0302
P0307

Yesterday evening when the truck started acting up again I just got the p0302 code.

I'm starting to worry that this may not be and I be an injector after all.

Any ideas on why the random multiple misfire and now th 7 cylinder would suddenly pop up?

Well, in the firing order, 7 fires right before 2...maybe it's actually been a problem with 7 all along... I don't know how likely that is, but I would personally throw the old #2 coil pack on #7 and see if the symptoms change... I'm a software developer and not a mechanic, so my advice could be quite flawed...but it's a free test at this point...
