Hey folks I'm having som trouble with my 2000 stock LC.

I filled up my tank the other day and with a de minutes started to notice a slight vibration when I came to a stop. This progressed over the next couple days to a much rougher and noticeable shake when I was coming to a stop. My first thought was a vacuum problem.

Then the shake started happening when I was giving it gas, accelerating, and at hwy speeds. I noticed that the rpm would drop about 500 before it happened.

After an hour of driving the other day, the problem began to occur at 60mph. The shake was the worse it has been. The check engine light starts flashing indicating a misfire.

The misfire has not occurred since.

Now, when this occurs I also have a big loss of power and performance. Normally the truck is very quick and responsive. Now it becomes sluggish when this begins.

When I realized this started after filling up I started to assume bad gas. However I ran the tank to half with a bottle of Lucas in it and refilled elsewhere with premium and have now ran through half of this tank as well and problem continues.

I'm 2,500 miles from home on a road trip and desperately trying to figure this out as there is now way ill be able to make it back across the country like this.

Thanks so much in advance!

Likely an Ignition Coil. Run the OBD and you'll probably see a couple of codes with cylinder identified. Coil change is ~15 minute job & coil cost is ~$65 - $110, and usually stocked at several sources. Run a quick search for Ignition coil on the 100's - several in depth discussions about this.

Please excuse my ignorance on this, but what is the OBD. I'm assuming that it's just to check any codes, however when I've taken it to advanced auto they said that there was nothing that they could do for me since the check engine light was not constant.

OBD = On Board Diagnostics II. This is a hand held diagnostic device that plugs into a port near the trans tunnel above the acceleration pedal (there about). These will display any codes that come up on the Check Engine Light (CEL), and this service is what Toyota dealerships charge ~$100 for. Most local parts stores will not charge for this. Definitely consider purchasing one...very inexpensive and allows you to diagnose codes easily and at your convenience.

Yes, you should still see the codes. They are stored. (Unless they deleted them to clear the CEL)

He got the one on the fast boat from Japan, not the slow boat from China.

Ya, I got that from the original post. It was a joke. Peppy and 100 don't equate. I guess I need to work on my humor.

I can chirp all 4 from 2nd to 3rd. Maybe I should work on my humor too......or, maybe the jokes on us and we have the 2 slowest 100s in all the lands.

In high confidence, I will say it's the #2 cyl coil pack; you can always verify by pulling a pack from an adjacent cylinder and swap with the cyl. 2 pack & see if the code moves to the other cylinder.

OK. So ran codes at Advanced Auto and as posted above I received codes stating my #2 cylinder and a random misfire. The random misfire happened when I first made this post.

I swung the truck by a shop and they reran the codes (literally 10 minutes after I checked them) and said there was something with the throttle body as well. They said that because of the random misfire I need to have the throttle body replaced and all 8 plugs on top of the coil pack.

They also said the coil pack was a 2 hour job.

Based upon what you guys have told me on here, this seemed to be a BS. So I am pulled my truck out of there, bought a plug and coil pack from Advanced and I am going to just put those in.

Any thoughts on the other comments by the mechanic? Or were they probably just living up to stereotypes?
