I bought a 91 Toyota Land Cruiser LJ78 and had it for around a month when the engine developed problems with the connecting rods and crank shaft. When they took the bottom out they found filings in the oil pan and when they checked the connecting rods one of the bearings had vapourized and there was scoring on the connecting rod and crankcase.

I looked at the cost of the parts and labour to fix the 2L TE engine, I determined that it would be cheaper just to replace the engine. I ordered a 2L TE from JDM Engine Depot and was told that it was a good engine only to find that this engine had the same problem as the other one. Even though the engine is under warranty the mechanic suspects that they would refund my money being that the cost of repair would be higher then what I payed for the engine.

The question I have is if I can not get this engine fixed what other engine would fit on to the bell housing. Preferably gas rather then diesel.

What about gas\petrol engine? Toyota only sells gas powered engines in Canada, could you swap the 2L TE Diesel engine for a gas engine from a 4Runner. The gas\petro version of the Prado used the 22R and was the same as the 4Runner, could this match up with the transmission from the diesel?

22R...
small amounts of mods with excellent parts availability. i went looking for the guy that did this in north western states but can't find his contact info. i know he is happy with that swap.

How 'bout you purchase my 1PZ engine /tranny combo? It is a perfect running 220,000km engine. I am installing a 1HD-T into my truck and will no longer need the 1PZ. Good deal for you! I believe Wayne has done this swap in the last few months.

ummm, if the price is right i might be interested. i like having a spare sitting on the shelf...
