Hi,

I have a 93 with 147K. I know that the rear main is leaking a bit, but I don't have any drops on the ground.
I checked the oil level and it was in the middle of the range, fine. Haven't driven in about 3,4 days. Started the truck and to my suprise, the engine oil light didn't go off. Added just a bit and it DID go off. Question, is the problem with the oil sending unit, electrical or ???

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,
That's an oil level light. We've had several (including mine) that have become more sensitive over the years. Mine now comes on between .5 and 1 qt low. No problem.

That sensor is mounted rather poorly. It's position is not held in place very well which means it could move and become more sensitive. It's seal is a simple o-ring so you could remove it and check it's position on the assembly.

Mine is about as sensitive as Beo's. I just top it off and all is well. At 250K I don't mind a little sensitivity.

I never understood how it worked until I had a 1FZ apart last week and it looks a lot like it came out of a gas tank{the sensor that is} ;) . BTW, if you don't have any drops on the ground leave it alone. Mine has some slight leaks, but, never leaves any drops. The LX I did last week had 100K less on it than mine and was starting to leave a puddle.
