Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I have a 1975 BJ40. I currently live in Costa Rica.
The vehicle is a little bit of a Frankenstein. This is how it is here unfortunately!! 😅

My current motor is a B motor that the previous owner turbo’ed.
Motor probably came from a truck and had crazy mileage on it.
Long story short, I need a new motor.
We found a (what I’m told) 3B from a 1989 70s series Landcruiser with descent mileage.
The casting code is: 11411-58040
I’ve been looking but cannot find anything with that casting code.

I’m new here and to the Toyota BJ40 world.
Any help would be appreciated.

The engine pictured is definitely not a 1989 3B. It looks like a 3B made before August 1988.
 
What information are you looking for?

It's a 1984-1988 3B, very common old engine. The casting code on the block does not match any part number in the catalogue because it's a bare casting. If you buy a block from Toyota, it comes as a sub-assembly with core plugs, drain cock, main bearing bolts erc, so gets a different part number.

It's largely the same as the old B engine, just bored out to 3.4 litres vs. 3.0 litres. And it's likely to die a similar death to your B engine if you turbocharge it.

No big mystery.

That’s exactly the info I was looking for.
So it a purchased block not original to any vehicle.
Oh, I’m definitely not turbo charging it. I’ll settle for the 3500.
Am I right to assume that the 3.4 will equal the prior 3.0 with Turbo (sort of) in terms of power?

The B and 3B engines were never fitted with a turbo, so no way to know how your turbo was set up by whoever put it in there. But I would guess that it will feel slightly less powerful, especially at speed, than the 3.0 turbo.

One more question if I may.
So I rebuilt the transmission and transfer case that was in the car that I bought with Terrain Tamer rebuild kits. It’s a 4 speed.
The used motor I’m buying has a transmission attached to it.
Do you gather it’s also a 4 speed or a 5 speed?

If you move that piece of cardboard, we can check. A 5 speed will have an external shift fork shaft coming from the aluminium top cover of the transmission, acrivating a crank on the top of the extnsion housing (between the transmission and transfer). The design of the top cover makes me think it's a 4 speed though.

the rib forward of shifter hole shows a 4sp top plate. The 60/70 series 5sps are domed.
Yea I just checked with the seller. It’s a 4 speed. I might as well just use my rebuilt one. Thx
