hi - i have (in australia) an HJ75 with a 2H engine, 89 model. i just replaced the engine and had some trouble getting the new one going.
i finally got it going, but i may have either got some wiring wrong, or blown something. the problem is:

i recall when i use to turn on the ignition the engine control unit that controls over-injection/run/stop of the engine use to go to the run position, at least until you started it. i never observed what happened after that, but assume that it went to run. when i was hooking up the wiring, an error (i assume) had this moving back and forth continuously which certainly wasn't right. in the end, once i re-worked the wiring a bit it seemed to be ok, though it's now a little harder to start, on starting i can see the rod moving back and forth during the starting process. it starts.

problem now - it just doesn't stop when i turn off the ignition. i tried following the diagrams in the manual, but the colours just don't match up at all, and i suspect some of the relays and the like have been replaced.

i would so much like to see a photo or a wiring diagram of how this part of the system is setup. including the manifold, the engine control unit and the relays inside the quarter panel (including the starter) for me, i have a couple of plugs around the unit, as well as a loom, and leads running off to the glow plugs, one going off to the manifold (earth??). i have something screwed into the manifold that has wires on the inside and on the outside which appear to be isolated from each other (one of which i have running off to the glow plugs). i looked at an HJ60, but this had two of these things in it, so i don't know that the wiring is the same anyway.

if i take the 'engine' fuse out, i cannot even operate the rod manually, ie. it's stuck in run and holding there so you can't move the valve. i remember once i took the battery leads off while it was running, and it had the same effect, like a relay or something needs some power to move the rod to an opposite position.

could i have just lost a relay with the incorrect wiring setup? or is it possible i just have a wire out of place, but it still runs ok?

any help would be most appreciated.

Hi Shayne,
I will post some pics of my 12V HJ60 for you in a minute, but I am not sure what all I have on file. Let me know what exact areas you want to see, and I can take more pics on the weekend.
One really important thing is to ground the EDIC and the EDIC relay well. I ran an additional ground wire from the EDIC to the frame and from the engine to the EDIC relay.

These are the pics I have on file. disregard the red thingy, it is an aftermarket starter relay.
