Just an FYI, I used one of those pin switches on mine I made last year and only after a month or two there was either enough corrosion or arc pitting that the switch quit working and you have to wiggle it to get it to work.

But I am up in the 'spray rust and corrosion enhancing chemicals on the road to prevent ice when the road is totally dry' part of the country so I am sure that didn't help at all :meh:

Other that that Nice kit!
They make some magnetic switches with no moving parts for car alarms that might work great for your application. Under $10 on eBay.

I went on your website yodatech and bought this hood light only cause I've been on the trail in the dark and had the upper radiator hose start to piss so I thought this would be awesome to have if i was in that situation ever again. How does the whole group buy thing work? Do you wait to have enough orders then ship out the products and if you don't get enough orders you return all the money, or is it just a special for forum members?

Thanks

Great question and thanks for asking.

This product is IN STOCK AND READY TO SHIP. I built a batch of these kits to kick off the "knight and Day" product line.

Thanks for the ECL product purchases and all paid invoices will ship out tomorrow

Appreciate the support,
Cheers,
Frank

This is not an accessory. It's a necessity!
I was about to refute this by saying 80s don't need lights if the hood never comes up cause cause they never break (more of a necessity for landrovers), but then I remembered I need to get to my food cooking on the @yodaTEQ HOT FZJ80. :grinpimp:

Hmmm...I'm thinking I may get 2. One for under the hood and one for the lift gate...unless of course you have something in the works for that

I was just eyeballing that possibility yesterday! I'm not sure whether I want it hooked into the dome light circuit or switched on it's own though...

:hmm:
Related to this, is there a handy powered wire somewhere in the liftgate that I could tap into? I don't really want to pull down the headliner, snake wires, etc, etc, etc. Unless I have to...

Pretty sure @ThreeEyedBandit did and told me..... but know I don't recall where he said.

License plate light. I don't use mine, since my plate is on the jerry can holder. I've considered cutting into that wire and rigging in a switch and some LEDs. But I think I'll wait to see what elegant solution YodaTEQ comes out with first.

I DIY'd a similar mod last Summer. I did a 24 and 36 strips. One facing into the engine bay and one facing out in front wired to the same switch.

I realize your product is assembled and ready to ship but some thoughts I found useful:

1) I am using a hood switch as my ground also, but I also installed a toggle switch. There are times camping I needed the hood open, but didn't want to wash out the camp with light.
2) I installed a weatherpack connector at the hood hinge, for easier hood removal.

Great product and I think I spent well over your $59 asking price. If I had to do it again I would start with your product.

Good ideas. Sounds like version 2.

Tail light in the lower hatch and rear wiper in the upper hatch. Problem is both are switched with the ignition.

The rear interior light has a constant 12v source and is located just inside the roof on the left hand side. Easy enough to get to without removing the head liner, just peel it back a little. This is what I used for my interior lighting,

^ This is how I made mine a few years ago. Nothing more annoying then having the light go on when I don't want it on and not being able to shut it off unless I press on the pin or pull the fuse.

Waiting for the kit I mocked this up. I need to wire this in, for now it's wired to a temp 12v plug.

Huh. Pretty crappy pic. Oh well...

And now that my wings are installed... Lights on the wings would be highly effective!

Add me to the list of extremely happy customers! High quality product and very illuminating...I almost had to grab my sunglasses!

The picture below shows the ECL contrasted by my carport's two tube flourecent lights.
