I’m looking for a diagram of correct set up for my various vacuum hoses in the engine compartment. Meaning the brake boost vacuum hose, & hoses going to/from engine block.

I have a de-smogged 2F 1976 (so no exhaust manifold / emissions vacuum lines.

I’ve included a photo of 3 spots in curious about and then I’m also curious about the intake exhaust ports and where those route to so I included a photo of my intake exhaust/carb - which are currently off but I’m installing them currently so that’s why I ask. Can’t find anything in my manuals

The arrow on the top of the valve cover connects to filtered air in the air cleaner assembly. It is for the PCV system, allowing the motor to get fresh air, and the PCV valve consume blow-by from the crankcase. The brake booster receives vacuum from the barb on the right, detached, next to your intake manifold. The one off of the head, is coolant, going to a heater-control valve on the passenger firewall.

There are three configurations, depending on when your 40 was made:

The later model years had a separate "Emissions" supplement, but I've never seen it before 1980. These are from the fiche.

There are also diagrams for the air injection system:

and the ventilation hose:

Not that it'll do anyone any good, but here are teh part numbers for the vacuum piping stickers:

You'll see that that valve cover to air cleaner hose #12263 is molded hose. I got one from Vintage Teq @ToyotaMatt Both the heater hose and the PCV-valve to intake have hangers "clamp" that are mounted on the firewall - I can't read the numbers.

There are two versions of that hose for 1976:

the two clamps are:

the firewall clamp is 90461-08084
the lower twisted clamp is 90461-08083

The fiche are strangely (to me) organized in that the part numbers listed on the diagrams aren't also listed in the parts lists.

FWIW, you can make your own "molded" hoses with a spring and a heat gun.

Well, if you'd like to contribute to my library, please let me know!

So back to my original dilemma which was the size of that port for the brake booster. In the picture the detached port has a diameter too large for the port hole on the intake. It measures 3/4” diameter and the port hole is meant for a 5/8” as measured. Therefore I was looking to purchase the correct size port. I was using a pre 8/76 intake and the new intake I purchased is an 8/76-12/78 intake. I purchased from cruiser parts thinking it would be the same as what I had because what do I know I purchased a 76 fj40 and therefore when I look online and see: for sale 8/76-12/78 intake/exhaust manifold for sale I thought it’d be the same.

Also I tried to order the port off the intake for the brake booster line and the sales associate at cruiserparts said that actually the correct brake booster port is the small hole on the topside of the intake and that I should plug that big hole where we surmised that it comes from. I’m guessing that’s a change Toyota made from the 76 model to the 8/76-78’s?

8/76 is the beginning of the 1977 model year. Here is where my brake booster is connected on my 10/76.

The port on the side of the manifold is plugged on mine.

Ok ya that confirms what the sales associate relayed to me as well. Thank you for looking under your hood for me.

I like the port on the side of the intake manifold for the brake booster vacuum. It's bigger, therefore better. The port on the top of the manifold is good for your in dash vacuum gauge. I think that I would find a good barbed fitting with the correct threads for that big hole.

Ya that’s actually a great idea for a vacuum gauge / using the other fitting for the brake booster. I like it. The only problem is finding that fitting…I’ve been sent one with incorrect size diameter and then I’ve also just been sent the “correct” hookup for the top there and it’s the wrong size. I’m going to keep trying other places.
