Tried a search but no luck on this...i know it is a pretty simple question...but how do you get the engine codes when your check engine light comes on?

Once you have the code is there a site (or place on this one) where you can look up what that code means?

Also how do you clear the codes to see if they come back or not?

Thanks for your help and sorry for the lame question.

Either buy an OBDII scanner, go to Autozone (free), or another mechanic (cost will vary).

The factory service manual, an aftermarket manual, or just ask in this forum. It is most likely going to ne the P0401 code - that is the most frequently mentioned cause for a MIL (or CEL if you're old school)

The OBDII scanner will do this, or you can remove the backup ECU fuse.

go to the Harbor Freight web site.
Look for the manual file for their OBDII reader ($40). (Works fine, btw.)
IIRC it has a full list of codes.

welp the jury is in it's throwing a P0133 code (O2 sensor circuit slow response - bank 1 sensor 1) - so i guess i need to replace it. One question, i don't have "the good book" (FSM) yet...would anyone like to tell me where this is.
