Engine block coolant plug locations? (2 Viewers)

Engine block coolant drain plug? Thought it would be the one on the right, but it didn't look like coolant draining out when I opened it up 🤔 it was a lighter/yellow-ish color, not pink/red that I drained from the radiator. And the one on the right is the only one I can find on the passenger side.

Ok i thought so. I think it was a trick of the light that made the small dribble of fluid look lighter, its definitely a red pink color now that I'm letting it flow out full force 😜

Here's what I got out of the radiator. Not sure if it's red or pink, which is why I'm doing a full flush of the system before putting super long life pink in per spec. Don't want to risk mixing pink with red.

What you drained looks to me like good stuff. How many miles since the last drain & fill??

Records show 40k miles ago, but idk what spec coolant. Anyway I just wanted to get it done with my baseline for peace of mind.

Question though - so a few flushes later and water is coming out clear, but I'm not quite draining a full 4 gallons.. and when I was filling with distilled water between flushes it wasn't taking a full 4. How am I supposed to fill with a full 4 gal of pure 50/50 mix?

Some is trapped in the front and rear heaters and lines going to them.
 
This is where having coolant concentrate would be nice - could dump 2 gal in, then just top off with distilled water. I can't find it in concentrate form anywhere!

Your coolant is already diluted, so just pour it in. No need to add any distilled water.

Ok. I didn't know if after a few flushes, where I ran the vehicle and front/rear heat on max hi every time, wasn't sure if that would've flushed out the original coolant and left a pure distilled water in that system.
If thats not true and its still the original coolant.. then I'm worried because I'm not positive if the original coolant was red or pink. Here's new vs original (with 40k miles).

The last service records for it are from a Lexus dealership.. so I would be surprised if it wasn't pink sllc. But either way it feels partly like a waste to do 3 flushes if I still missed about a gallon of the old stuff haha. Idk. Not the end of the world I guess either way.
 
The remaining water will be in the lines going to the rear heater core and down to the oil cooler. If you disconnect those you should get most of the remaining water out.
 
Saved by the Amazon bell...Toyota Long Life Coolant...100%. IMO, not enough in the heater cores v. system total capacity to worry about.
That's red, not pink. And I was getting about 3 gal out, so still about a gallon left that wasn't draining. If it is pink stuff and just old, then I'm not worried about it. I'm still undecided about what was in it previously though lol.
 
Found this thread which clarifies pink and red can be mixed, per March 22, 2002 Toyota TSB:

A new pink colored LLC is being phased into production for all 2002 Japan Built
Toyota models. The color change does not affect the maintenance procedures or
intervals established for the red coolant. The new pink coolant is 100% compatible
with the current red coolant and red coolant can be used to replace, top off, or mix in
with the pink coolant with no adverse effects.


Now I feel better about not worrying about that last ~gallon in heater lines, even in the off chance it was red.

So it was probably already overkill to do 3 distilled water flushes from all 3 drain plugs lol (that passenger side engine block is a PITA!). But oh well, got a cleaner system now for it.

For that ps block drain did you try fitting a piece of tubing over it to direct the flow down to a container? I've looked at it but never tried actually putting my hand in there so see how difficult it is. Is it just access to the bolt that makes it hard?

I didn't bother with tubing. Not super messy. Just bolt visibility and access that sucks. Couldn't fit a socket, i had to just use a wrench. A ratcheting wrench would've been super nice.

I did mine a few weeks ago usIng this method. The hose was just something from Home Depot and the bolt was still easy to access.
