Driving down to Galveston to get on a cruise. But the tach and AC just stopped working completely at the same time. I checked the AC fuse inside the car and its good. Any suggestions? Coincidentally we pulled into a Toyota dealer here in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully not gonna miss our cruise because of this 😡. Car has been working perfect until now. Yesterday I had to duck tape the air intake tube because it broke when I took out the air filter to clean. That's the only thing I've done recently and the car has been perfect.

My friend that's a mechanic at my store said it's most likely a ground issue. Hopefully this small store has the parts needed and can get it done quick... And not rip me off

I did a search and got this: "The wiring for the AC clutch is protected by the "GAUGE" fuse. "
So possible your AC clutch went out, then that popped the fuse to some dash gauges. I would look in the fuse locations, replace that fuse, make sure your AC is off and don't turn it back on.
I'm not certain of this but it seems possible.

I'm in Ft. Worth, if you need something and are close I might be able to try.

Did another search and found this, so I believe this is your problem. See below. Do not turn the AC back on, and replace that fuse and get on your way.

"A lttle background on the problem I had: I was driving down the road here in Tucson with the A/C on. It was about 100 degrees outside and all of a sudden the A/C shut off and the gauges in the dash stopped working. After replacing the fuse, everthing was fine until i turned the A/C compressor back on, the fuse blew again. It only happend when I turned the A/C comprssor on, not the blower fan, heater, rear heat, or anything else on the heat/A/C control panel. So, I took a Toyota wiring schematic for the gauge circut and began testing things on the circut. At first, all indications pointed to the A/C cut relay behind the main engine computer. After I replaced that, the problem continued. So, I took the test further and now determined that the clutch on the compressor is the culprit. It was pulling about 20 amps and i THINK it is supposed to pull about 5 or 6. But, while i was there i found that the compressor is aftermarket anyway and Toyota sells the clutch and the compressor as one piece for the 1FZ:D ."

Thanks for the input

thanks for the input. We're in Ennis so we're on the opposite side of you. Thanks for the help. I'll have them check that

I've cruised the wilds of South Texas without AC for many weeks at a time. I'd worry about it when you get home.
I'm mainly worried about not being able to read the oil pressure gauge 😂

Okay, good to know. I let the service guy know and he says the tech isn't receiving any readings from the body module. Either way, if they can't fix it in 20 minutes I'll be driving "blind"

BTDT, the A/C clutch can get worn through and short. Shut off the compressor and replace the gauge fuse.

FWIW the clutch is almost as expensive as a new compressor, so evaluate your system and determine whether you want a new clutch or a whole new compressor. It is difficult but not impossible to replace the clutch without blowing the A/C charge.

The gauge fuse was not popped so onto the next. Hopefully a Domino effect of failures doesn't happen if they don't find a fix because I'm about to wing it and just go. What a nightmare lol. Why do things like this happen at the worst times? 🤦🏼‍♂️

And now they're saying it's exactly what you guys said lol. Alright. Time to buy another new thing.

just replace the fuse, don't buy an AC clutch, wait till you get back from vacation to do the full fix
just don't turn on the AC, that's what I think is better given your time constraint

Thanks for all your wisdom y'all. What a knowledgeable community we've got here

Yep, the A/C clutch went out and that blew the gauges out with it last summer. Eventually went with a new Denso A/C compressor to repair.

If the A/C belt is still on, consider cutting it off to avoid a further failure that might whip around and damage the radiator or something else important before you get to that compressor R&R. The belt will likely need replaced and isn't doing you any good.

God is saving you from getting on a cruise ship and catching coronavirus.
