I got my new Black emblems the other day and was wondering what it the best/safest way to remove the old ones? I am thinking of using mineral spirits.
Thanks,
Dean

Dean,

Use dental floss to remove the old emblems. Then some rubbing alcohol to clean up the adhesive.

Which emblems did you get?

Does your engine knock on cold start up? :) see my other thread.

Good luck,
Dave

sorry, thought I replied to you PM awhile ago.

but yes floss works, tie a little knot in it to make it cut like a saw, wrap the ends around a small piece of wood for a handle. I think I used fishing line however.......I don't floss ;)

then to get the gunk off, I used a combo of, 3m adhesive remover, Gunk Off(or whatever its called) rubbing alchol, heat gun and in the end it came down to ALOT of rubbing with my thumbs.......worn em down raw.

To get the new one in the correct spot I took some pics, then used blue masking tape to outline where the original owes were, i did this before I took them off. I think next time I would just go by my pics, the masking tape made it a harder to work around to get the old gunk off the body.

Dave; Thanks for the dental floss tip! I’ll try that this Saturday. The emblems are a complete set of OEM black pearl. I will be replacing the gold ones with these.
I have not experienced any unusual noise other than the rattle of the heat shields. ;)

Pimp, Thanks, for the tip as well. I looked at the original post and seen how you had worn your thumbs raw. (I thought you were all thumbs anyway :D ) I don’t have a digital camera so I will use your picture on your post. They look nice.

Thanks,
Dean

IMO fishing line (at least 8# test) works way better than dental floss and that 3M adhesive remover is well worth it. I still had skin on my thumbs after using this method!

I need to get the emblems off first, than apply the adhesive remover right?
I’ll give the fishing line a try.

Pics?

I want to do the same on my River rock 99, curious how it will look.

Use Goo Gone for removing the glue once you have taken off the emblems. They carry Goo Gone at Target, Walmart and Eckerds.
