After thinking I'm awesome for finding a low-mileage elocker for $200, the wrecker advises me that the shift fork is broken. Toyota tells me that the fork is discontinued. EDIT: CDan says it can be special ordered.

The question - the wrecker will knock off the cost of the fork, and I found a place in AUS who has them (I think), but why would the fork have broken? Is there anything else I should be worried about?

If someone dropped it while it was out of the axle housing, it could easily break the shifting fork.

hmm. Well I talked them to $100 for the assembly, so I'm buying it anyway. CDan tells me that the fork can be had via special order, so thats the plan.

These two statements contradict one another.

Which is correct?

The latter is correct, CDan can get it special order.

My local Toyota dealer told me it was unobtainium, I guess I should be used by now to the fact that they are unable to handle anything but the simplest requests. Sorry for the confusion.
