@Engineer8000 Hello sir. Got a note from @orangefj45 that you were working on a some cool electrical stuff. I have been just starting the same type of work and thought it would be great to sync up perhaps and I could learn form your experiences. I've been testing some old MAFs for him and few other things. Next I'm planning to do some board testing of the cooling fan controllers. Looking also to grab a '62 complete wire harness to map for the group, or send to @Coolerman if he's so inclined and has the time to do it and add to his arsenal.
In any case, it would be great to sync up if you have the time.
Cheers!

Not sure if you were intending for this to be a PM or if you deliberately posted publicly, but I'm glad you did!

If you don't mind my asking, what're your plans for mapping the FJ62 wire harness? Reproductions, updates/upgrades?

Very curious about the MAF testing you mentioned as well. Having a modern part easily available that can be converted to would be a great replacement in the event a factory AFM fails, given they're not available new anymore.

I was planning to map it all first and then build the schematic much like @Coolerman has done with his previous stuff. From there I was considering building new or other options but the jury is still out on that.
As for the MAF, I tested a few old one and found a few good and one bad so I've gotten that experience. However, on another thread here I saw someone mention they thought the '93 Camery MAF looked the same so i ordered one and dropped in in our 1988 '62 and the form factor and all is exactly the same. works great and even better is that I found it on CarParts.com as a re-manufactured part at ~$100.00, Part Number: A17420070.

BTW- meant to post wide as @Engineer8000 has a private account.

Ah okay. I think an updated and modernized wiring harness for the 62 series (ideally available in sections) would be a great thing to have. I'd certainly jump at one, but I have to admit I wonder if the R&D and subsequent investment in production would be worth such a niche market. One size larger gauge wire with silicon insulation and soldered splices would be a massive improvement over the undersized 33+ year old wiring in our rigs now. There's a company called InfinityBox that makes DIY modular custom wiring kits with full relay controls (great for windows and power door locks) that I've wanted to use to build a whole new harness for my 62 for a long time, but I honestly doubt I'll ever get to that point 🤷

For the air flow meter (AFM, which the 3FE technically uses as the MAF, mass air flow sensor, is a completely different part, so the listing calling it an MAF is inaccurate in name) an easily available replacement would definitely be good given the age of our vehicles. I had toyed with the idea of converting to a MAF some years ago and it's mentioned in a couple threads as @Moby had been experimenting with one. I don't think a MAF conversion would be worthwhile though unless it were a simple inexpensive swap, given there wouldn't be an improvement in overall airflow through an otherwise unmodified engine. I got off on a tangent there but the short n' sweet is a readily available replacement for our factory AFM would definitely be a good thing.
