I have some major issues with the electric system. My lights never turn off if the truck is on, or even the key is in the ignition. My turn signals some times don't work, when they do work the right always comes on with the left (stays on). The right turn signals also come on, (don't flash) when I am on the brake. And the latest, when I am signaling to turn right and on the gas the engine surges on and off in time to the light flashing.

I also have a horrible sound coming from under the truck, but only when in Drive, and only when moving. Does not matter what speed I am going, but only when on the gas. I don't think it is the heat shield rattling.

Lord al'mighty. I hope this gets resolved for you. Wish I had some ideas but anything I'd say would be guessing.

You need to get a professional to look at this one. From your description, it sounds like all the systems are back-feeding into each other which is not good. It could be something with your body ecu/junction block in the kick panel. A lot of different systems pass through there. Has this truck ever been underwater or struck by lightning? I've seen some crazy stuff happen in those cases.

Two places to start looking:

  • Do you have a trailer connector? If the leads are shorted it can exhibit some of the weird signal stuff you mentioned.
  • Has the windshield been replaced? If so, you may have water down the inside of the firewall and in the ECU.

Never been hit by lightning, or had damage from water crossings. I do have a trailer connector that stopped working along with this. The windshield has been replaced a couple of times, and water (rain), or sloppy snow does seem to affect things. I was reading about under the carpet on the passenger side so will start there. Will also disconnect the trailer hookup and see if that helps.

Not a point where I can throw a bunch of money at this to get it solved professionally.

If taking it to a shop is not an option, I'd start looking at the kick panel junction block, ecu, etc and see if there has been any water intrusion. Just a word of caution, please be very careful when you are working on anything electrical. If you are taking anything apart, make sure to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery until you are ready to test. That way you don't accidentally shock yourself or arc and cause more damage. The last thing you want is to get hurt or make the problem worse (and therefor much more expensive.)
