This heating pad is not extremely durable kit, but provided you are careful installing it, it can be made to work. First off, the elastic bits and plastic buckles are relatively fragile, so work gently with them. Taking it on and off the seat multiple times will result in breakage.

Also, they come in driver's side, only, so locating the controller is a bit of a trick. Note how I secured it with the hold down straps.

Smarter guys than me will find ways to make it work better, and I am sure there are higher quality units out there, but for my purposes, this one worked and gave me solid husband points. Plus, she now enjoys coming out on off road ventures and the "glare factor" is quite a bit less when things go sideways.

mmmm, could they go under the seat covers?

Don't know why not.

Don't know why you'd want to, either. Unless you want to decrease how warm they are.

These won't set your butt on fire, even on high, so I'd think you want to put the least amount of insulator on them that you could. I think you'd want better, more expensive heated pads if you want to go that direction.

If they were under the seat covers, they'd likely last longer/take more abuse, and the covers would hold them in place even if the cheesy hardware fails. Plus, I can't imagine the seat covers over top would really make that much difference in heat output.

True. But right now, they do a credible job of protecting my equally cheap seat covers, which are wearing prematurely and simply won't stay on the seat.

Might be time to add some 12v plugs in a non-obtrusive spot, but scoring points is always a plus.

Ironically, as part of my short finding and elimination tour of last month, I've eliminated most of the pre-existing ones. It's a wonder the rig didn't burn to the ground, based on the Mickey Mouse/antique wiring.

But for now, a warm bottom is a happy bottom and my wife actually enjoyed off-roading with me. :)
