I am looking for advice and/or pics of where to drill the hole for my EGT sensor...13B-T BJ74. Pre turbo.
Looks to me that I could drill into the side of the exit pipe of exhaust manifold from the front (drill aimed to the rear.) Probe would then stick out the side aimed forwards.

Confirmation of negation would be helpful.
Thanks.

I have the EGT , right after the turbo , the difference is aprox 50 C in normal cold temperature , 250-350 C .
once you go in the high range , over 400 -500 C , the difference between pre and post turbo is even lower .
especially if you keep the high temp for a long period .
I won't even mention the benefits on having the sensor post turbo , because you certainly know them .
these difference have been tested on the same car .

I put mine in the center of the exhaust manifold just below the turbo. There was already a port there that just needed to be drilled and tapped. I was able to fit a right angle drill with stubby bit in there without removing anything. Just modified the heat shield. Sorry for crappy cell pics

Mine is installed the same way.

Thanks guys!
I have not yet removed that heat shield or the manifold.
Injectors are on their way to Forest Park, Georgia as Beno advised.
Your pics are more than good enough.

the crack you see in the photo , is one of the reason I didn't drill the cast manifold .
Yeah, I hadn't noticed that crack until I shot the pic. So you think the crack is from drilling? I would think it would've cracked closer to where I drilled.

Hijack over, sorry @jblueridge

For my experience , when you drill in a cast iron, subject to' big heat stress, there area good chances that cracks can develope.
As all know the cracks cannot be welded.
This Will only worsen the situation.
There are more plus, then minus, in an after turbo sensor.

Just my 2 cents.

Bye Renato

That might not be a crack. It might be a shadow from the flash. On mine, that boss on the casting projects out a bit from the sealing flange, hence possible shadow.
