Raise your hand if you've had the gasket at the EGR outlet from the manifold go bad. Mine has gone bad many times. It stopped going bad as often after I replaced the cat-I figured there was less back pressure in the system and that made some sense.

Anyway, after two years of silence, it failed again, and SurfNTurf is coming up and I can't be disturbing others with my exhaust sound.

At the local speed shop, I found this exhaust material they highly recommend called Mr Gasket Ultra Seal, and cut out a new gasket. It's nice expanded metal laminate with graphite facing that seems much nicer than the Toyota Gasket material. It's installed and quiet. I have no idea how long it will hold up, but my SOTP estimate says just as long as the Toyota Gasket at least.

So the good news? The Toyota gasket costs $14. A sheet of the Mr Gasket Ultra Seal is $12.99 and is enough for about 20 gaskets. Just something to consider if you need to replace this gasket, which in my experience fails in 100% of FJ60s.

Mine's gone a few times too. But I'm hoping I've slowed that problem down now with the SOR stainless EGR tube. It has a much thicker flange where the stock one is prone to warp and cause the gasket to fail. Insert crossing fingers smiley!

Good to know. I'll keep that in my back pocket if it fails again in spite of the SOR tube.
Thanks!
