Eezi-Awn 2200 (pics)

Want to share some pictures of my new Eezi-Awn 2200 I picked up from Paul at Equipt. I searched for a long time for the appropriate tent, and after quite a bit of talking with folks who have used their rooftents for major portions of their travelling years, Eezi-Awn fit the bill.

The 2200 is a big tent. I had considered something smaller but with a family of four, I wanted something that we could fit all of us together. Additionally the wife wanted off the ground from the ``creepy crawlies'' in AZ.

It consumes the majority of the roof. The sway bars are also definetely back on.

Man, that thing's huge. My wifey would like that. As a matter of concern and speaking from experience, please trim or turn those down facing bolts around, and, those gutter mounts WILL BEND and your tent will be rubbing on your roof. I have 8 of the same mounts on my rack. You will know when you hear the sqeek, squeek, sqeek of the bolts digging into the roof paint and then into the sheet steel. Been there. You will need to gusset the curved lifts to streingthen them. It happened to me with a partially loaded rack. Personally, I would add one more cross section to carry the load. Very nice tent set up though! I am green with envy.

Wow, okay some cutting was definetely in the works, but now you have me worried about those gutter mounts. Those Con-Fer's mounts bent on you?

Here's a photo of the ones that bent. The feet are the same but the supports are the shorter ones and I had eight of them not six. I took mine off in the middle of Canyon Lands and bashed them with a hammer against some rocks and bent them back to straight as I could, reinstalled them and reloaded the rack and they bent again. I am going to remove them when it warms up and weld in some gussets to stiffen them up.

I really don't think the down preasure of the rack is what bent them. I think it was the side to side on the trails that did them in. My son and I can easily stand on the rack with no problems and the loaded weight on there was less than our total weight but the shear movement was the problem. Yours may be fine but I would keep a close eye on them if/when you hit the rougher trails.

It's actually relatively easy for just me to set it up and take it down. The biggest pain is just the amount of material that needs to be folded correctly when the tent is coming down.

The full tent weight is non-trivial, but I'm just done with the whole rock-crawling thing and enjoy the long trails now. Definetely had to put back on the sway bars.

i put a set of the clear coat aluminum load bars on my fj60 (scroll down on the link.

http://www.weatherguard.com/van_storage_equipment/view_products.php?subcat_id=64

the top stops that stick up from the mounts and hold ladders and wood in place can be trimmed down if you like. the extruded aluminum slides thru the cast (super beefy) mounts, and can be adjusted to hold a fishing pole tube on one side and an awning on the other.

im tellin ya. get industrial load bars like this, and get away from that luggage rated crap like thule and yakima. i can stand in the middle of one of these load bars, and nothing flexes. they were 350 a set. and NEVER corrode. the hardware is SS.

the cool part is, if you dont trim the load bars flush, you can move them from your 55 to your 6o to your 80 to your full size ford van.

any decent commercial truck outfitter shold have some in stock for you guys to inspect.

I need something through which I can drill (like the 1" ID square tube) for mounting the tent, plus keep the mounts physically below the load bar due to width of the tent. Do you know of any mount that allows this?

the aluminum mounts i use i called quick-N-easy there not cheap but they are just what your looking for. if you want a low profile to your roof and take the stock roof rack off get the 4 inch clamps they are the closest to the roof you can get.
