I've removed the original tail lights on my '66 FJ40 because they were obscured by the swing out bumper/tire carrier now on the rig - plus, it sucked. I was hoping that I could install a later model tail lights (with the SOR protection thing). But, I think I'm beginning to realize that in '66 the tail lights worked differently. And I'm here make sure I understand. At some point, Toyota changed over to a red, yellow, white tail light where the turn signal and the brake light were separate. But, on mine '66, there was a single red light and a single wire from the turn signal that was solid for break but on/off for turn signal.

Am I right? Can I make the later model turn signal work? Can I get separate wires for turn signal and braking?

And, as far as I can tell, there was no hazzard in '66, but I can't find a wiring diagram that far back.

Two wire; one for running light, one for brake/turn. If you only have one, welcome to the wacky world of the P.O.!:bang:

Let me be the first to inquire as to if you still have and want to part with your original light ‘cone’ covers!

Hazards were not standard on the early rigs but were included as an option or (more likely) added later. I have one on my ‘67. You can either rewire in one with the circuit with your single flasher relay OR (and how I am doing it) use one of Mark’s @Coolerman new hazard flasher subharness and relay. Prettty much plug and play if your current harness is stock.

I’m also sure you can make the newer style tails work but might require (or might not depending on what mods your rear sub harness has had) running new wires.

Sorry that I have no other useful information to provide...

@Coolerman send me a PM on this add on piece. I did not see it on your site.
