Last December i gave my TLC for a complete body redo (plenty of rust that had eaten her up). When she came back, i found out that Toyota had disconnected the EDIC motor (the motor that swings from off to overdrive and then on before you start the engine, and goes back to off when you turn the key off). So now i have a small cable (next to my hood cable) under the dash.

Its pretty annoying cos i can't give the cruiser to the Valet parking. At the same time, i need to think twice before i let any mechanic test it - cos they won't know how to switch it off. Once a mechanic let go of the clutch on 3rd gear to switch it off.

Anyway, since i am from India, there aren't many spares here. I've been told that the mechanical function of the EDIC is spoilt and it needs to be replaced along with the relay. I spoke to a dealer in Australia for spare parts and he helped me locate the part number but he did NOT have the 12V spec that fits my cruiser.

Can anyone PLEASE help!? Its just embarrassing to tell people - yeah this cruiser is great - but doesn't switch off ;p ;p

Although there are many parts and much more advice i need from you Guru's, this is #1 on the list. The cruiser is doing rather well!

It might be easier to source a 12 volt EDIC motor from a 3b, then you can install just the motor into your 2h edic.

If I were you, I would also check wiring to the whole system. The motors can die, but since it happened during a major undertaking, then it's possible that a wire is loose.

That is some sweet ride you got there..where are you located?as i reside in india and drive the same as well with 2h engine.

I would first try tro fix the old one and I really dont see why it went to the shop ok and came back without edic?

Are you sure it was not the (connection to the) oil pressure switch that made it turn off all the time after a few seconds?
The pressure switch is under the starter, is it working?

Its come back with the EDIC. But it doesn't function.
In 2009, i had this issue where the engine would cut off for a split second and start up again. It happened maybe twice in 4-5 months, but it worried me.
Toyota say that the motor is spoilt. But they're referring to the mechanical functioning INSIDE the whole assy.
Thank you for the drawings. I'll ask my uncle to help me with opening it up.
My oil pressure sensor is in. I fitted a new one just recently (2 weeks ago). BUt my gauge doesn't work. At high revs it just kisses LOW. :P However, the images you've posted are very interesting. Only the centre "knob" contact is connected to a wire. The other one - is left as it is. Where does that need to be connected to? I've been trying for years to try to sort out the problem - but of course toyota always said it wasn't repairable.
Before the paintjob, water had entered the EDIC relay that's why they had to shut if off.

From a 3B? Engine?
I have a feeling they've disconnected the motor only to save me from the motor going off and getting jammed in the OFF position. Right now its stuck on the ON position. To put it off i have to tug a cable.

The other wire is ground and not present on all models.

I have seen pictures of the edic relay but the components are not difficult, any pinball machine repair person can fix it. I have an old star trek next generation pinball machine and maybe it is even possible to use parts from the control board and swap them out (ouchhh, just kidding, I love that pinball )

Some thing else is this sensor under the starter:
I have 1 oil pressure, 1 water temp and this thing with a black/yellow wire= edic oil pressure sensor

Ok the picture below is stolen from above mud topic, the Y/B wire goes straight to the edic relay so make sure it works.

Wow that's loads of useful information! I'll get right with it! I think i'll open it up this weekend!
I'll someday take you up on your offer about the pinball machine ;P
Much thanks! ;)

Thanks guys for all the help! I've managed to get my oil gauge working. The old one was exposed to high temperature. The plastic was disfigured and the coil had bent the steel clip.
I guess my oil switch and gauge are working fine now.
I'll still need to get my EDic motor imported.
