I just purchased a cheap Fridge (Edgestar 43 qt) portable Fridge. They are onsale right now for $455 shipped at Compact Appliance.

My question is has anyone mounted one of these fridges in their 100 without a drawer system? If so, what slides did you use and how did you go about mounting it?

I'm hoping I can get away with not needing to add an extra battery since I only camp for two or three days at a time and plan on driving each day to recharge the battery.

I did purchase the "Transit" bag to help keep it cooler so hopefully it will use less power.

Thanks for you help

I am running a NL fridge with slide and no drawers. The slide I use is a frontrunner slide. I took a piece of 3/4 marine grade ply cut to the size of the slide. I then bolted it down using the 3rd row seat mounting bolt holes. I picked up some really inexpensive carpet at an oreilly's to cover the board with. You are welcome to swing by this weekend if you need help or want to look at it again...

Where did you get the front runner slide from? You Fridge is really nice. I figured I would purchase a low cost model first to see how much I use it. If I use it a lot, I will upgrade..

I got the slide from Paul at Equipt outfitters. If you think you might upgrade ( I think you will) I would hold off on a slide for a while. You can just make a mounting solution Like mine with some d-rings to secure it. It isnt that big of a deal to slide it in and out by hand. When I first got mine the slide didnt come in time to install it before a 2 week trip in Baja. I was pulling it in and out all the time and it was no big deal and mine is bigger than yours. I would wait until you upgrade to purchase a slide.

BTW, I use mine for BBQ's and holiday parties as well. So not just for camping. I also keep it in the truck for those grocery runs where I want to go other places as well..... Let me know if you want any help running power to the back for a dedicated circuit. It is pretty easy and you can check out how I did mine.

We could also talk Ham gear since I have been spending some time looking at that lately and starting to study for the test....I know now it would have made getting in touch with you guys in Anza much easier...

I have one of these and I love the thing !! I use it all the time at home for parties. I am not sure how well that bag will work, first time I have seen that one is available. I dont think it is insulated and being black I would think it would hold heat. Let me know how it works out.

As for a slide I built one for the back but ended up taking it out , I made it just a a little to wide. I would be interested to see what you come up with. As this thing fully loaded is very heavy.... !!!! But holds temp really well.

I also got these really cool 200 lbs Velcro traps with clip. to hold down the fig while in motion.

The EdgeStar 43 qt. is $420 now on Amazon. However, it looks like it got mixed reviews.

Good luck with your unit - let us know how it goes for you.

Amazon charges for the shipping, bringing the total up to $15 more than the link above. Plus, amazon uses ups to ship vs FedEx of the other place...

I have the Dometic CF-50.

Comparing the Edgestar to the Dometic, it looks like the EdgeStar uses about 50% more power (5.4A vs. 3.75). That might be a big deal.

You can order the Dometic with OEM fridge slide.

I have been running the Edgestar 42/43 qt since 2008 with no issues.

OJ also did a review on it, it was branded as a Wynter, I think.

It did get bad reviews for power consumption but was one of the fastest to cool down.

In 2008 when I did the Rubicon, I left it on for 2 days at Rubicon Springs with not starting my FJC and when it was time to head out, my rig fired right up. I have never done a dual battery set up. Not to say it is not on my list, just have not been able to get around to it.

I am designing a wood platform to mount the slide rails on, right now. no pictures yet.

The 42/43 qt is the one I have and a few guys in Rising Sun have also purchased a few since me. Now a few of the guys that bought the larger Edgestar have had some issues with compressors, temp consistency and service but to my knowledge those issues have been resolved (Nakman knows more about this than me). The smaller units, 42/43qt have to my knowledge been issue free in our club.

Here is what I have done prior to designing a platform. I just strapped it to the oem hooks on the bumper side and uses the seat belt mounts on the forward side with straps. I have it the same in the 100 right now

Hope this helps.

This is great. I am in the process of installing a second battery. Got the T-Max controller (IBS China Rip off for 1/3 the price!) The fridge will arrive tomorrow. For now, I plan on not installing any slides and will just tie it down similar to what you have done.

I"ll post some photos when I get around to installing it next weekend. Thanks for the ideas!

this aforementioned issue was with the cheap plug, more than the fridge. the positive tip didn't seat well in the plugs, not sure if it's a weak spring design with the fuse, or what, but it would get very hot- which led to accelerated battery drainage, then an over voltage condition on the fridge. I ended up erasing the issue and direct wired a trailer harness, you could be less ghetto and solder in an Engel cord with the Posi Fit receptacle, would give you a much better connection http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=30

Do you have a picture of this setup if you are still using it? I am looking at ARB and front runner slides, but they have the middle cut out and looks like plywood mount the only option (no plans for drawers yet). I might just build a slide for that extra trouble. I'd be able to make custom mounts that will fit the third row seat threads.
