So, on a run with the Ga Cruisers yesterday my ebrake cable snapped. Anyone have a replacement in their stash that fits a '67 40?

Any tips on replacement. Also, the backplate is spinning... causing a bit of a clicking noise when I'm moving in direct correlation with the rpm's. Does that mean I broke something else in there or is that expected.

My skills are very limited, but this one I think I can tackle. Let me know if I you think I should tackle it or whether a pen a check are my best option. :grinpimp:

Back plate spinning means you broke the 4 bolts that hold it to the t-case. A small drill bit and an easy out will fix that. That is an easy fix.

Relacing them should be no problem.

And it does happen from time to time. Ask Alex. He broke his the same way.

I can check and see if I have a cable. But I'd just buy new. The old ones are well old and a pain to handle coated in grease and mud.

The clicking noise is the broken bolt heads flopping around in the drum. Don't drive it anymore until you get them out.

Disconnect the drive shaft. Unstake the bolt or in your case remove the cotter pin and remove the drum retaining bolt. Drum will slide off. As well the backing plate if the bolts have snapped. seperate the backing plate from the drum and remove the bolt heads. If you still want to drive it you can just put the drum back on and tighten the bolt as well add the cotter pin and then reattach the drive shaft. You won't have an e-nrake but it will be fine until you get a cable.

Also when taking the driveshaft off make sure you don't let the yoke come apart. Might be a good idea to mark both sides of the yoke incase it does. Needs to be oriented the same way it came off. Otherwise you can get the DS out of phase and have vibrations.

Thanks Marshall... just what I was looking for. No worries on the replacement cable. I'll get new.

Let you know if I have any problems.
