I noticed my temps breaking 210 recently so I figured maybe I didn't get all the old fluid out when I switched to 10K. I had a bottle of 20K so I decided to drain it really well this time and replace it using this method https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/400234-summer-desert-temp-readings-3.html. I used a heat gun to open the valve but I didn't check the opening temp with a thermometer. It opened upon the application of the heat gun and closed again just fine though.

Now I've got virtually no clutch action. I can stop and hold the fan with a newspaper, even after a ten minute drive in 103 degree heat.

There really isn't any way to get it back together wrong is there? There's not much else to fix inside is there? If I need a new one any suggestion of what brand? Aftermarket OK or OEM only on this part?

Thanks!

Never mind. Must have taken a while for the fluid to distribute. Below 200 idling a/c on with 167 intake temp and 101 ambient. A/C. has never been this cold. Thanks!

I had the eaton clutch on my 97 and changed the oil with some 20k cst. I had no luck with it. I bought an aisin blue clutch, threw in some 20k cst and it rocks! I hope you have better luck with your Eaton than I did!!

This one's working pretty good now. We'll see for how long. I'll probably get a blue hub and some 20K. I'll change it next spring if this one gets me through until then. Heck, the OEM blue hub doesn't cost a whole lot more than aftermarket.

Personal experience here in the Sonoran Desert is that a good Eaton with 20,000 cst is about equal to the newer blue OEM with 30,000. John
