Hi all

Thought i'd share my vid of an easy option for those looking for a plug and play device for their 80LC to connect a trailer. I ordered many online (not the Hoppy version ) that all claimed to fit the LC and none of them did.
These can be ordered from a company here in Aus called "Matrix Auto parts QLD "
MATRIX | PREMIUM AUTO PARTS | BRISBANE $37.00 AUD from memory.

Anyway its super easy and quick and plugs into factory loom under the chassis.
Please note the video is aimed at a beginner installer level.

Cheers

In the US for the basic trailer connection it is a four wire system where in other countries a five wire system is used, The LC is a five wire system which has separate wires for brake lights and turn signals. In the US the brake and turn signal uses one wire so a converter box is necessary to combine the signals. That is more than likely why several of the harnesses you tried did not work. The Hoppy or Hopkins referred to here on MUD plugs directly into the left and right taillight pigtails behind the trim panels on the interior,

Ahhh interesting to know. I have one of those odd four pin sockets but easy to get adapters to flat 7 and 5 pin sockets like the one in this video. My next stop was indeed the hoppy plug but cost and postage over this one couldnt be justified :)

Bumping an old thread - I think this is why my pig tail doesn't work. I ripped apart my passenger side, and found a box like you are describing. The symptoms are the connector provides the headlight signal, but does not provide the brake light. So maybe the box isn't working anymore, or the PO didn't wire it correctly in the first place and gave up. Any ideas on how I can trouble shoot what the PO installed to get this working?

The rate of failure of the boxes is high, not just on our Land Cruisers but all vehicles. The Hoppy/Hopkins boxes are a truly a plug and play solution using the existing OEM pigtail sockets to both rear lights. No taps, cutting or soldering of wires required. They can be purchased relatively cheap from etrailer or Amazon etc. Just make sure you get the vehicle specific model not the generic.

You may have other issues causing your problem but disconnecting the existing box should be the first thing to do to start your debugging.

After searching a couple posts, looks like the advertised 43405 kit doesn’t actually plug and play. Looks like I have some more digging to do!

I recently purchased a Tekonsha 118357 that is plug and play on the rear sill harness of my 97. Box says it's good for 96-97 Land Cruiser or LX450. Works great but I did find a corroded broken wire on the Toyota side and repaired it.

This harness makes connections inside each quarter panel directly to the harnesses coming from the bulbs. As I recall the threads your referring to were trying to make connections underneath the vehicle.

@thetoyotaman How has this been working for you? I am looking to install this same kit. It all installs from underneath the truck, correct? Thanks!!!

I took a chance and bought the Tekonsha 118357. It works perfect for my '94, even though the box and Amazon say it only fits 96-97. It was truly plug and play, I didn't even have to drill a hole for the ground wire like the directions said (used an existing bolt).

Did you take any pics of the install? I bought this harness off etrailer awhile back and have yet to do the installation
