OK everyone, the dates for the 2009 Pig Run have been set- August 28 and 29 at Rausch Creek. That’s a Friday and Saturday, the last weekend before the Labor Day weekend. If there’s much interest I’d be glad to schedule an extra day vacation and wheel with anyone looking to wheel Thursday, too.

As usual this will be a laid back affair- to say the least. No raffle, no banquet, no speeches- just good camaraderie and great fun. Anyone driving a Toyota is welcome and we have been known to welcome owners of other brand vehicles to share the fun with us. Most guys (but certainly not all) who attend camp at Rausch to take advantage of the free camping available. Those who arrive for Thursday wheeling (Wednesday night arrival usually) get the best camping spots. Joe Mylie and Brian O usually stay up at CampAwhile, five miles north on I-81. Either way it’s usually a great event, except for last year when I laid my piggy on her side…………

Last year we had only three pigs in attendance I’m hoping to see a few more than that this year but regardless, it has always been a fun event. This will be the sixth year we’ve run this thing and it’s always been fun. I believe Joe Mylie and I may be the only pig owners who have been at every year’s running- Joe, is that accurate?

If I can get my rear in gear I will have shirts ready for the event, last year they were $15 each and turned out pretty good. I will have a few shirts from both 2007 and 2008 available at the campground, very limited quantities of those are left.

I will post this blurb on Mud in the events section, and also in a few of the club sections to let anyone who isn’t on this mailing list in on what’s happening. Send a blurb to the thread on the events section to let me know who’s coming. See ya next month!!!! Gary S

Gary,
As you know I got a new rig :D and I REALLY wanna make this trip but my wifes birthday is that weekend. I'm gonna try like heck to be there Saturday though. If I make it my buddy (stock87) will be riding shotgun.

I'm not sure what trails you guys are gonna be running but I prefer to run the easy stuff untill I get a feel for the truck, plus I don't like to beat on my trucks.

The new rig :grinpimp:

Looks like we are out, after blowing my brake line, we thought it would be good to go, well I also blew the brake booster and master cylinder. So we are waiting for these to come in and I won't have the gas tank protected in time. Have a good time guys, maybe next time.

Not gona make this trip. Just got clinical schedule and I'm on this weekend. Have a good trip and post some pics.

I know no one's expecting me to make it....but my reason is kinda funny. I gotta kill a bunch of chickens this weekend.

Hope everyone has fun.

I won't be able to make it. The wife made reservations a couple days ago for the beach.

Have fun.

Pig Run Followup Pics

Nice meeting everyone, I have a few shots but not all of them came out that well (iPhone camera - enough said!)

Had a great time, and made it out without breaking anything.

Looks like a good time.

Pig run

The photos above are from Saturday, thanks to Rich in his cool FJ cruiser. The tree was down on H trail- no way around it so we chopped it up into pieces and dragged it over the side. Happened in a pouring rain, too, but the weather cleared and we had a great day. We had a small but capable group of four vehicles and a few passengers, too, Julio from MD and Tom Humphries in their locked and lifted 80 series, and Rich (ordoman) and Rich in their capable FJ Cruisers. Shmukster was the trail leader in the piggy. Todd Slater and Steve Colavito were along for the ride and moral support. We did twelve, fourteen, and parts of two, went over the hill by the frog hole, and also did 19 and its various arms down at the bottom of the park. Saw six turkeys but no deer. We were out of the park by about 3:30.

Joe, only my truck and Todd Slater's represented the 55 series, although Tom's 80 sported a 55 grille!!!! The turnout for pigs and other cruisers was disappointing but then again the weather was not particularly cooperative. I'll run the event next year and will have shirts (an every-other year phoenomena the way it seems) but I sure hope the turnout is better next year. We'll see what happens.

Friday only four vehicles wheeled (nobody else in the park!!!!) but we had a great group. Tom and Carl in Tom's 40 from CT, Big Dan and son from MD in his very capable 4Runner, Tom and Amy in their capable FJ Cruiser and my 55. We did Snakebite, the quarry, 22, and then played a bit here and there and in the comp course. Dan apparently put his 4Runner on the roof in the comp course Saturday after I left the park- pictures, anyone? Dan told me his son wanted him to roll so he could make a buggy out of it.......

No carnage or breakage for anyone other than Tom and Amy breaking a driver side taillight on 22, it was very slippery that day, very wet and that trail is on the side of the hill with lots of off camber stuff- a bit scary in my piggy! This was the first pig run without Joe Mylie in attendance- we missed you and your contingent, Joe! Anyone having been at the other pig runs at rausch can recognize the fog and overcast weather we had as it was the same as what we had when we lined up eleven trucks on the old staging area a few years back!

All in all a good time in spite of crappy weather Friday and early Saturday. Sunday turned out to be a perfect day for the ride home. Thanks to those who attended for two good days of wheeling and some great camaraderie. Gary S

these are the only pics i have none of it on its roof (which would be nice to have). the pass. side was not that crushed in when the truck was on its roof, it took most of the damage from rolling it back over
