I have a 93' fzj80 with over 250,000 miles on it so I've decided I need to start looking into options for an engine swap when the time comes. I would like to put in a toyota turbo diesel. I heard that there is one that will bolt up to the engine mounts and also to the transmission I just dont know which model it is. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

I belive the engine you are looking for is the 1HD-T.

Greg or Sheldon a GS cruiser parts can order you one.
Not sure how there price compares to others.

It would have to come from overseas or central america.

Ive got a 1HZ in my HJ-60. There are options you have. From Toyota youve got:

1HZ
1HD-T
1HD-FT
1HD-FTE (computer)

You could go Chevy 6.2, or 6.5 turbo diesel.
You could go Cummins.

Either way be prepaired to spend a lot of money. IF you can find a 1HZ, 1HDT you're going to spend 8-10 grand US. Then you've got to figure out how to install it..... It's certainly not impossible, more than a few have done it, but it's a project.

I hate to say this, as Im a diesel freak, but replaceing that gas engine would be WAY cheaper and easier.

The way I look at it is, for 20 000 you could have another rust free truck putting 8000 or 10000 into a motor unless brand new is kinda crazy, but then again if it is your truck with tons of new parts, all done up the way you like, well I guess then its worth it.

Gassers are for sissys, you want a diesel engine!

That's about what I paid for my truck. However, I often envy how cheaply you can get yourself an LC in the States and would happily spend the difference on fuel or a supercharger and other accessories.
