ummm, no matter how high the truck sits... it is the distance from the bottom of the diffs to the dirt and buddy, you are shy about 2".
<a fun challenge in the making>

oh, did you install the anti roll side bars yet? if not make sure you have a loop attached to the side of that puppy, you know, when the COG gets the better of yah...

thanks romey :D
nick and brad ;) and maybe that new guy canuck43 will come out with us

i understand about cog, and dont plan on running swaybars. didnt before either
and i also understand that i didnt raise my axles except for the 2in from putting on bigger tires,
but now i dont have leaf springs hanging under the axle to act like a mud plows
and i got a cheater in the rear axle now too ;)

no, no, not sway bars, anti-roll bars...(picture holding your arms straight out from your sides and you will get the idea)
your COG has gone up 2" for the tires and 5" due to the lift of the SOA. you are 7" over stock height COG. this is not counting the Dakar 2.5" spring lift.
i have run for decades with SOA trucks in the old club in way wickeder (is that even a word?) terrain so i know what i am up against and what you will need to deal with so no fears there. the problem will be the lack of experience that you have with that kind of COG.

i know how capable a SOA truck is. i also know they flex wickedly, they travel phenomenly, they look cooler than the Alberta sky at -25C!!
but
i also know they tear out C/V joints(birfs), u/joints, brake lines, shocks, and are unstable which is the main reason you don't see me running one. I won't be running down hill from you, or any other SOA truck.

you will be thrilled with the looks you will get. you will be bubbly when you see the way it performs off road.
but a word of caution, when it does go over sideways count on replacing a window or two and popping out some sheet metal.

At this point, Jakob and I will be!!! One truck only, still working on Jakobs and don't want to rush or cut corners, building it right and to last!!
Lost, will be there with u! Been the pulley and the puller its all good times!!
I have found over the years that good judgment comes from a bad experience.....and most of that comes from bad judgement!!!!!!
Experience is something you don't get untill just after you need it! :whoops:
Lost truck looks great:clap:
Welcome wildbj70:cheers:
Keep checking this site for up dates on the run. We have meeting once a month. Next meeeting will be in Acton for a tech day and prerun check of trucks near the end of the month.

hey Neil, welcome! congrats on the bj70! there's a handfull of us in the gta area so i'm sure we can set up a local meet n greet. i bet that 70 can do plenty as it is bone stock. only have less than 2 seasons wheelin experience so i too am still learning, and there's lots of fun stuff to learn. but you've found the right crew to get your wheelin on!
cheers.

come to think of it, we should have an introduce yourself and your rig wheelin thread here!

YESSSSS this is turning out great! I am so pumped. :bounce: are we going to run the same trail again? it was a great trail lots of fun! the pefect length!

Apr 10-11? I can trade a shift to make it work! shall we say that is the final date? the sooner we have a hard date the better for me! does that date work for everyone else?

Kingston boys? Moose you out there?

Simon truck looks amazing! to think how far you have taken that truck from a pretty much stock FJ62 into the beast it is now! so impressive! :D:D looking forward to wheeling with you! does the 10-11 work with you even thou its your bday?

Neil where in Toronto are you? My truck lives in the west end (Etobicoke) but I am living @ King and Bathurst now. It's great to have another Toronto local! get that lift in and come wheelin!

I don't know if there is any really deep holes on this run for Wayne and Simon to play in:p.... oh wait there was that one ;)

yah, it sounded pretty nice... actually the small hairs on my head stood at attention.

what i did find interesting is... you didn't give it a try. of course common sense might have come into play at that time.

hey Romey. LandBlazer and CDN_cruzer thanks for the friendly greet
well CDN_Cruzer im in scarborough at warden and Lawrence i have not seen any bj70 in my area at all a couple of bj60 are around
well i would like to have the lift kit put on and ready for april 10-11 i just need to find a good mechanic in the area that can install it
do u guys recommend anyone in the toronto area i dont mind driving a bit out side toronto to get a good quality mechanic that knows these trucks well

and how come theres not alot of internet sites that sell part of bj70 is there a reason? are they not good trucks?
and does anyone have a good site for the bj70?

April 10-11 should work good for me as well, as long as I am finished by turbo install by the weekend. I booked the week before that off with intentions of installing the turbo. Hopefully I have all the little parts rounded up by then...If not maybe somebody will have a passenger seat for me...

It would be fun to get out wheeling with everyone, I'll likely still be running my 235's but they have good AT tread pattern...

wildbj70- I am new at this stuff too, so we'll be picking lines and picking up tips together....

So what are the details? Are we staying somewhere specific? How about a wheeling list of equipment must haves for this trip? I don't have much for offroad equipment and not much of budget but I want to be as prepared as possible...

Looking forward to it...

wildBJ70,
if you are not too fussy i have a 1.5 year old 2.5" Dakar suspension sitting here under my "parts" 70 that i will sell you, hell, i might even be convinced to install it for you.
if
"the price is right'

Might we be graced with the presense of the mighty RIG OF MORTIS? (note the ego stroking maybe it will help with his decsion:p)

Love that video of the LandBlazer pulling the 70' out! I went to school with some guy and I was checking out some of his wheeling pics and I noticed that hole in one of them! they called it the monster hole! Chev p/u on 38" burried! it was the middle of august bunch of babies!

wildbj70 wayne (Crushers) is a good guy striaght shooter and from what I see he does some pretty decent work:p I don't know any places local in Toronto that do work on Cruisers. Do you have the ability to do some of the work yourself?

Eric you don't really need anything special maybe a jug of diesel but I always bring lots of extra so no need to worry other than that a good attitude, be dressed for the weather and ready to camp for a couple of nights ahh and be up for anything:steer: and that will get you a long way in this group! Last year we camped in one spot it was great. oh and some tow points front and rear! :) sure there are some other things I am forgetting:hmm:

Now for some tech! what tires to run? snows or M/Ts? looking @ my pics I think there was a lot more mud and rocks last year. M/T?! Wayne do those tractor tires fit on the new 70?

As far as the date goes who is good for april 10-11? who else at the meeting liked that date Brad?

Wayne
Brad
Me!
Eric (splitbuseric)

yep, the PZJ78 will be running the tractor tires this year
or
if the weather calls for nice then i will be running the red ragtop!!

dam if i know that i would have not bought a Dobinson lift kit
well i cant wait to go off roading and seeing what this truck will do
what kind of camping gear do i need been a long time since i went camping

wildBJ70,
if you are not too fussy i have a 1.5 year old 2.5" Dakar suspension sitting here under my "parts" 70 that i will sell you, ****, i might even be convinced to install it for you.
if
"the price is right'

i sleep on the roof rack with a tarp and a sleeping bag...
or
i sleep on the hood with a trap and a sleeping bag.

pack light is the best suggestion an old fart gave me...

yeah, this is bare bones minimalist camping style if that makes sense Neil...and i'm sure we can all share food. we had base camp last year. IF we're doing southtrail on ardbeg, it's about 30Kms of nice trail that took us, at that time, almost 13 hours straight to finish including the lemon situations.

should we camp on the trail this time, do part in one day and finish the next day? just curious, that was a looong haul, but fun as hell! hmm, mind you if it was smooth all the way, maybe it woulda taken us 8-10 hours, but we should expect some big challenges that could potentially slow us down...;)

Eric and Neil, if you havent seen THE thread here its:
https://forum.ih8mud.com/ca-upper-canada-land-cruisers/267781-uclc-spring-run.html
pics and lots of vids start on page 5, and Wayne did a real nice write up!

water/food/fuel/recovery gear/warm clothes/tent/warm bag/2 way radio/basic tools is bare minimum i think...did i miss anything besides bringin a good attitude?! :)

gonna start building a fold out sleep deck for the 40 so i can just tarp over it and crash.

Neil, we could do a quick meet in TO with maybe Matt/Cdncruizer, Nicholas/ROM and anyone else who wants to join if you want. maybe some beers and wings or whatever? if there's interest i'll post a thread on it.
i'm down for april 10/11 weekend! no matter what the wife says! lol.

It sounds like this is shaping up to be a good run. I am going to do my best to make it. Are you guys planning on heading up friday? Once we have some sound details I'll send out an email to the club for those that are regulars on this site.
Dave
