Hyhpe, what years or would this fit a 1974 FJ40? I’m sure shipping might suck but I’m interested.

@Mr. Green
It came off of a 70. I’m not 100% but I’m leaning towards yes to the 74 assuming you haven’t modified it heavily. Bottom line, I don’t know. I hope someone will lend their experience with us.

9/72 a Fourth fixed nut was added to each frame rail for the skid plate. Three speed skid plates used the front three fixed nuts. The four speed used the last three nuts. The skid plates are different between the three and four speed because of the shape transmissions and location of drain holes. I. The 74 model started with a three speed in the US. So 74 models could have either depending on build date. Some markets like Australia had a early four speed starting 9/72 reason for the Fourth fixed nut. The H42 started 9/73 but wasn't until 1/74 build date did they start in the US.

@Living in the Past
Thank you. What I’m hearing is if the 74 has a 3 speed transmission it will fit but not if it has a 4 speed transmission. Is this mostly correct?

Ok so 10/74 I have 4 speed . I have original frame so let me know if I should measure before working up any ship estimates.

The one on the left is from a four speed prior to 8/80. Need to compare the pattern of larger opening for the rivet and smaller hole for the bolt. Because the four speed skid plate is further back the pattern of bolt and rivet holes changed between the two.

If you’re looking for affordable protection, you should buy this, even though it requires modification to use and the holes don’t line up.
If you want a weak skidplate that offers minimal protection just because it’s the ‘correct’ piece for a ‘74 with a 4 speed, keep looking.
