Like a lot of us, the steering box in my '84 FJ60 has a leak and needs to be rebuilt. This is a semi-daily driver so extended downtime isn't really an option (currently).

From reviewing old threads, it looks like West Texas Off Road is the preferred rebuilder, but I can't tell if they are still around. When looking for them and searching their phone number (325.653.7001), Redneck Ram comes up, which appears to be the new name/affiliate of West Texas Offroad. Additionally, @TRAIL TAILOR recommended Lares Corp. It looks like 1572 is the correct option for early 60-series from Lares, but of all the partners that Lares lists on their website where to purchase, none of them have the 1572.

So, two questions:

1) Does anyone have recent reviews of either, or any other suggestions to rebuild?

2) Secondly, I've been scouring places for early 60-series steering boxes, but they seem very hard to find. Any suggestions on where to look or another avenue?

Hoping to have this thread be a current resource for others who are in the process.

Thanks in advance.

I had Redhead Steering Gears of Washington state rebuild mine and it works great! I see you are in Alexandria...have you ever been to a Capital Land Cruiser Club event? We have meetings the first Wednesday of every month at Kilroy's in Springfield if you want to meet up with some LC guys.

WTO doesn't do rebuilds anymore.

Thanks...yeah, WTO just emailed me back and said they only do FJ80 boxes these days.

Will try to make it out to Kilroy's, with two young kids getting that freedom is hard.

Thanks!

For the archives/anyone else looking, Tabatha at ADVANTAGE STEERING- 760-202-9990 Indio, CA got me a box - she was great to deal with and was very appreciative of the referral.
