Been meaning to ask this for awhile..... When I use the Dynamic Cruise Control, there is an image that appears in the dash when my car and the one in front approach range / picked up by sensors. Sometimes the icon has the distance bars AND a car displayed, and sometimes NO car but bars.

1). what dictates whether the car is displayed or not? No mention of this that I saw in the manual.

2). Just made a highway trip home and noticed, with Dynamic Cruise activated, when approaching slower traffic, my car did adjust speed slower then accelerated to match the car in front, BUT, did not display car or bar icon. Normal??

The car is displayed when the radar is picking up a vehicle ahead. shortly after you should feel the car start to gradually slow. If you hit the turn signal and start to change lanes it will also go away and resume your cruising speed.

So do you know what would make the icon appear with no car displayed?

No car would be displayed when no car is being picked up by radar or is too far away to be of importance.

ok, bars appear - who knows why? Car and bars - there is a car being picked up and speed adjusted. And here, none, but car is slowing and picking back up....

Trip from today

Yep. got that. but it doesnt explain the bars and no car. and why I got no images while dynamic cruise was on

Get the car/bar pop up. One, two or three bars. Set it then it goes away as usual.

the bars indicate the radar proximity setting. 3 bars mean it will pick up vehicles ahead of you at the maximum distance, 2 bars is middle distance and 1 is close. I usually go 3 bars in open road with minimal traffic and one bar in close traffic because at 3 bars you can get trapped behind a slow car not realizing the cruise has matched the slow cars speed.

Got that. Don’t have a question about that. I think your confusing the bar set point with the pop up I’m seeing and asking about when driving.

Or sure if they improved it on you ‘18 but on my ‘15 if you roll up on a semi with a shiny set of rear doors it confuses the hell out of the cruise control and applies the brakes rather aggressively. I’ve learned to apply throttle when I see a truck with shiny doors.

I believe I have noticed the same thing. Going on a road trip today. I will see if I can pay attention and figure it out. Always irritating when the icons don’t do what you expect them to do or do their thing consistently.

Doesn’t the icon pop up when it senses a car in front? That’s what it does on my 14 LX and 20 Cruiser.

It used to, but didn’t the other day. That’s what I’m wondering about - why to do if anything or if others have experienced this ?

Is it possible you deactivated radar cruise and are just using cruise?

Well, anything is possible. But, in this case, no. I pressed the cruise button as usual, a brief press on, then the radar ready symbol came up im pretty sure signifying that Dynamic Cruise was on. I sometimes press the back arrow button (not sure of the correct name, 1/2 circle arrow button)to delete the message, then set the speed and distance. Anyhow, if I had set regular cruise, the speed in my video would have been constant and not changing. Weird.

UPDATE:

So I took the car out for a bit just now to run some errands and either I’m going senile or something is definitely changed…..

Used to be - when I set the dynamic cruise control, anytime the speed changed, the car/ bars would come up.

Now - it comes up ONCE then not again even though the speed continues to either go up/down as needed.

The icon IS suppose to appear when in use, not just once, right??

I believe it will only show on the dash display if a car is detected. If you have it on the cruise on trip screen then it should show all the time. I usually have mine on MPh so it doesn’t show. It should always show the bar in the HUD then a car when it’s detected.
