Valid points on the dmax. I was thinking about the Yanmar 6 LPA (1HD-FTE) which has 315 hp and 553ft/lb on the crank, with the drawbacks of being configured for powerboating.

Comparing the Yanmar torque curve to the 1HD-FTE "truck" engine, I can see it is making power at a higher RPM and so better tuned for marine use. Likely a different turbo. That and the advantage of the "ocean water intercooler" is how it is getting its higher numbers.

Looks like the donor frame was sectioned and the lexus was fitted onto it, I'd say this is more than just an engine swap. Personally I don't like it, I would rather get a bone stock 470 and send it to Profits for a diesel motor swap, or fit the turbo kit that Slee sells.

Excuse me now while I swallow the puke in my mouth, those wheels and mirrors are just plain retarded..

i actually like the mirrors....if i could get podvin to make me a pair i would buy them. They can be used as Alley lights with my auto retracting mirrors!

x2. It's a Chebby with Lexus body.

Well done, though.

It serves its purpose... towing... in style!:grinpimp:

I would much prefer a 1HD-FT swap from a late model 80 series.

It's got a Dana or 14 bolt rear axle.....

It does look great, problem is that the buy-it now price is 49K.

Getting close to the cost of a 200, which is 10 years newer.

Doesn't mean that's what it'll sell for. Also, when you figure in the cost of that swap, you'll be close.

And, a 200 isn't diesel.

yup, there is no comparison...

yeah i see that but he keeps using all the body parts; what does he do go to the local mall and rip off the front end? I just thought it was funny i did see the one he did that was convertible and had a whole front end clip from the lx470 on it and tilted forwards etc very nice work

just a 4runner with a lift, snorkel and a trd supercharger. He didnt even swap a 4.7 in, came with it!

to you bad mouthers-If you dont like it you probably dont use your truck for anything besides groceries -suckers. I work for a living and tow often. :flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2::flipoff2:

There is no way a 4.7 turbo or 4.7 supercharger has enough power in the mountains let alone towing my buggy. On the Dyno is one thing try up a hil for 30 mins straight with 7000lbs on it as in wolf creek pass in pagosa springs colorado or on the way to mountain cabins I build at 12,000 feet.

To answer questions

I get the parts form a salvage pool and ebay

it has a American axle manufacturing 11" ring rear axle

it aint a chebby with a lexus body the duramax is built by isuzu and the frame is 90% custom -chevy sucks I have one of those too.

It has 14" travel airbags in rear

The mirrors are bad a#@ they even turn to the side electrically on factory lexus switch, when people bright light me for my 4 HID's the get those in the face as they pass.

I am looking for 40 plus out of it I want enough profit to offer really good service including flying out if something neesd fixed. As price goes down so does service. Also there are a few things to be done paint touch ups, cooler mounts, wheel wells. If I dont find someone to buy it for decent $$ I'll just keep it.

Depending on what settings I can run due to temps and safety limits this setup is damn near 400 hp and 650 -700 torque

I appreciate all the comparisons of motors I chose this one for easy parts aqusition, decent reliability, massive power, super smart computer and transmission. Hopefully Toyota will come out with something similar soon so I dont have to build these anymore

I've got 16430 miles on it its all working good. typical bugs were worked out a year ago

thanks alot for the support from those of you who commented :grinpimp:

HAVE FUN WITH VIDEOS!

Alan Podvin

Alan, thanks for the details. As always, very nicely done. It looks like a great, purpose built vehicle.

damn, thats pretty cool

i think a duramax conversion, along with a SFA conversion sittin on 40s would be badass. that burnout video and the video of 1loudlx tearin out of his driveway in the snow got me wanting more power (or atleast geared right). hell, 18mpg (towing, none-the-less) sounds pretty good too. well ill keep dreaming while i save my lunch money for a set of sliders...

.

Alan,

I want to make it clear I wasn't dogging on the install - and i'm happy to give you benefit of the doubt - However it's hard to argue that the existing LC/LX is a well mated package and that adding that much weight and changing the chassis and suspension dynamic will certainly change the characteristic of the vehicle. I am just saying it's no longer a lexus is all... To me that's not a bad thing, I put 67k miles on a 4x4 dodge diesel in 11 months, so the noise of a diesel is nothing and the torque and power would be a welcome addition for sure...

I applaud your ability to engineer a custom solution and would love to own such a beast, but the point I am making is that I wouldn't buy it in lieu of my existing 100 which has to have some serious WAF (wife acceptance factor) - I might buy it in place of my toy car which is a 500+ whp SRT8, which quite frankly I hate....

Although i am a cummins fan, I do agree with you that the 6.6L + the allison transmission is hard to beat, particularly when it comes to aftermarket support - I also am guessing that the 5.9 and 6.7L inline 6 cummins is probably too long to fit in the engine cavity of an LX/LC - pure speculation though.

Peace - Z

alan thanks for the posts i love seeing all of your rigs i wish i could see them in person the best one was the lc with the open bed (pick up thing) keep up the good work and its definetly insperational for us lazy bones to go wheeland to mod our trucks:bounce: most of your stuff is one off yes?? i love that bumper on the old lc to make it and ship to the est coast would be expensive or are you interested in doing little projcts like that? I like slee's bumper he has on the blue 100 but he says its some time before its available hey i tried to look up the picture to post it witht he message but i dont have it on my work computer its at home it had toyota cut out of the stid pate in front do you remeber that one
