Durabaking my 40-Help

I am going to attempt to Duraback my 40. I have never ever done anything on a vehicle as far as body work goes. I guess I need to sand the interior down to bare metal? Then apply a primer like POR-15? If I have to sand it down what do I use. How long should this take me?

The instructions from the durabak page just say to scuff the paint with sandpaper then wipe down the serface with doh forgot the spelling but it starts with X heheh. Dont use paint thinner.

I think por 15 is just an added layer of protection.

durabak is very durable but the surace texture is very rough. I will never use it again for the interior because of this. I would choose something that has a smoother finish. This is just my preference from personal experience but you might want to see some samples before you decide. if you do use it, do so in a WELL ventilated area. I would suggest a charcoal paint mask. and DO NOT get it on your hands or skin unless you want to have it there or a long time. Use laytex or similar disposable gloves.

Here's a few pics of my 77 Bronco i'm doing a frame off resto on. I used Duraback on the tub and was really happy with it. The gun I used was only $14.95 from harbor freight. It was an LVLP gun, and worked excellent. I have $300+ primer guns which wouldn't spray the material out as nice. As far as prep before sraying it, wipe it with the previously mentioned Xylene. The manufacturer says to call before applying if the primer sufacer was epoxy based, but I decided to spray it anyway. I scuffed it with a sanding pad to give it some tooth. Still holding up now.

I put a coat of regular down then topped that with a coat of smooth to make it less 'rough', worked great.

Looks good guys. How do you like the grey? The sand samples from Durabak don't come close to the tan on my 40 so I am considering grey or black. Seems that grey would look less dirty. Are y'all worried about what Durabaking does to the value of your 40?

take pictures of floor before the durabak shouldnt be a value issue unless its a restore to stock or if you do top and bottom people might thinlk your hiding something yoou might try smooth as reg is rough on the skin id do it again in a heartbeat
