I am buying a set of factory 2006 LC Wheels and the guy has Dunlop and Bridgestone tires. He wants $80 more for the Bridgestones. They are new takeoffs.

Is one of these better than the other?
Which one looks more aggressive?
I don't have the opportunity to see them in person.
Please help I need to let him know today. Thanks in advance

Also is anyone running bigger tires, that look less like car tires?

spend the $80 and get the bridgestones. heck, they would be worth more than that to me. the dunlops have a horrible rate of outside wear after not too many miles.

BFG AT's come in 33's for your 18's. I think it's 285/65-18

I just checked tirerack and the bridgestones are $130ea and the dunlops are $173 ea ?

If you look at the 4runner forum at http://www.toyota-4runner.org , you'll see the Dunlops have caused nothing but problems for 4runners/GX's. In some cases, owners were lucky enough for the dealer to replace them w/ Bridgestones, and their vibration problems were solved.

like i said, the dunlops SUCK! the dealers know it. they hate that the factory brings those things in with those crappy dunlops. they get eaten up in less than 20k, even with the proper R&B. doesnt matter. stick with the bridgestones, im tellin ya!

Amen

we got new Dunlop grand trek AT23 with our 03, they are pretty much done for after 35K miles.

We have ~ 41K miles on the stock Dunlops. I haven't experienced any problems. They're wearing pretty well, but I religously rotate them every 6K miles.

Thanks for the feedback, there are always 2 sides to any story.

I ended up not getting either - I found some BF Goodrich rugged trails that were a little bigger and look alot more aggressive.

Tire Size ?

what size did you end up getting and do you have any photos. I am thinking of changing the tires on my 04 from the stock 275/60r18 to 285/60r18. But I want to see how they are going to looking and if the difference will be noticeable. Thanks

IIRC, the 18" BFT AT's measure to be approx 32.6" dia x 11.4" wide. The only other alternative tire that's comparable to 285's on 16" wheels I've found are the Bridgestone dueller Revo's at 32.6" x 10.4" (so 0.4" narrower than stock tires, but 1.5" larger diameter). Stock 18" tires are approx. 31" x 10.8". The new Nitto 18" terragrapplers are only 31.5" diameter, but too wide (like 12"+) width. My question is, if you go w/ 32.5" diameter tires, how does one recalibrate the speedo & nav? (nav. has a recalibrate button, but the manual says its to recalibrate for new [stock sized?] tires. I guess it tries to use the GPS, but the recalibration distance you drive is negligible compared to GPS error.

where is this recalibrate button?

I had bridgestones on mine and ran them over 55k. not a great tire and the last month they were totally shot, but i was holding off to get snow tires for the winter. the only snow tire i could find was a dunlop. love em. great on ice and snow.

From everything I have read and experienced the bridgestones are the best way to go on 18's is there any other top vote getter for the bigger wheels?
