Figured out a way to reuse the crimped contacts in the connectors:

Cut off the existing wire and arrange the wire stubs in the contact into a "bird's nest". Think center punch.

Drill out the "nest". I used a vice on a drill press.

Solder in the new wire. I guess you could also crimp it again. I prefer to solder so I can unsolder and reuse the contact if necessary.
