i recently bought a '95 4runner- the v6 model 4wd 5sp standard, anyways, the previous owner was a chic who never really took it offroad so I cant really ask her this, but its got 285 dueler a/t's. i plan on leaving those on until theyre used up, but even though they claim to be all terrain tires, they dont look like it, and i generally dont use all terrains anyways as they dont shed wet clay whereas mud terrains do if anyones used them, im curious as to how they perform in sand or light mud. the last thing i wamt is to go shark fishing and end up stuck in the sand 15 miles from nowhere.

If they're the Bridgestone Duelers are okay tires, but the newer DA/T Revo II's are far superior. The tread pattern and rubber compound have much better traction. They work great in sand (learn how to run them aired down) and light mud (not too sticky). They also work well in wet conditions and snow (not ice). For a lot of mud, that's what mud tires are for.

I've run the Revo II's on the last two trucks and absolutely love them, good off pavement, and great on pavement.

Not cheap but you get what you pay for. I do run LT's (E) and they are very durable..and tow a small camper with confidence.

goodyear sells some wrangler a/t's that look like m/ts not counting the siping in the treads- theyre suprisingly cheap and have decently thick sidewalls- anyone know anything about them?

According to my quick internet search (try it, it works), those are Goodyear Wrangle Authority A/T. You took that picture at Walmart, didn't you? They appear to be a Goodyear tire made exclusively for Walmart. Walmart shoppers like them: http://reviews.walmart.com/1336/119...uthority-tire-lt265-75r16-reviews/reviews.htm

Some people on the Cherokee forum seem to like them.

They look like they'd be a little loud. Corroborated by some here: https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/523731-could-i-get-some-opinions-these-tires.html

haha i did take that picture at walmart, and thats exactly why i was a little suspicious- bc they werent carried by discount tires or any of the various 4wheeler websites i looked at. thanks for the research

I have the dueller A/T on my Tundra and they are not great tires. They don't like clay soil. On sharp corners, they squeal, they are no better than the dueller A/S that were on there before.

SE2000, do you have the A/T Revo II or just the regular A/T--very different tires. I push my Revos very hard on an FZJ80 and they don't squeal. I was not a fan of the regular Bridgeston A/Ts back when I had a FJ62, but they were a heck of a lot better than a Courser (Cooper) A/T.

The clay soil you speak of, is that dry or wet? The A/T is not open enough for clearing sticky mud.

Even just a little bit damp. I am not talking about standing water wet. But they should be better than street tires.

I just put 4 new Revo II's LT's on last Toesday, and wheeled the shat out of it on a trail on Sat....Land rover's got stuck, disco's got stuck, Jeeps got stuck....I never spun a wheel (of course in fairness, I do have an electronic rear locker, and ATrac)

The one's I took off had 45G on them, and looked great....$1000.00 out the door mounted, and had two old ones put on some spare rims

If it's damp and sticky enough to stick in the tire grooves, the only thing that's gonna clear is a wide open mud lugged tire.

Around here, the Owyhee mountains area has a very clay-like soil. Whenever it rains, the ranchers just to wait it out, no matter what tires they run. After just a small downpour, I've been on a 15 deg sidehill and tracked across at a 45 deg angle with all four wheels locked--scary.

My duellers are like the ones that are optional on chevies and jeeps, not the revo.

Yesterday I was sliding downhill on a Vermeer S600 bobcat where the duellers tore up the grass.
My old Lexus ES300 with A/S tires had less problem.
I am now thinking of getting Zeon LTZ or Silent Armors

Yeah, I had a set of the old Dueler A/T's on my FJ62 as was unimpressed, especially on snow--very poor hook-up (I believe mine were the D695s, but there are also tow others, the D693 and RH-S). The REVO II's are softer with much more molded-in siping.

The Zeons get good reviews, but they're only available in a LT265/75R16 and just a few 17" -20" sizes. Silent Armors get good reviews but are spendy (as are the REVOs). A tire I would also consider is the Kumho AT KL61 as it rates as good or better (on Tirerack.com) as the REVO and ~$60 less per tire.
