Duck Boat Paint??

I have always wanted a tan or kahki Land Cruiser. I currently own dark Green 80 that has quite a few blemishes (small dents, keyed, faded clear coat and so on). The previous soccer mom and her kids were pretty hard on it.

I have deflared it and plan to herculine where flares were and lower panel. My disclaimer I am no body man. I can put a serious rattle can layer down though. I was thinking of buying Parker Flat Tan Duck Boat paint (http://www.cabelas.com/product/Park...0&Ntt=+paint&WTz_l=Header;Search-All+Products) and putting it on the 80. Now mind you this is an oil based paint. Parker is known more for their super tough floor coatings actually. I have painted an aluminum duck boat with stuff and was really happy with how it has held up.

I am planning on sanding the current paint as it sits and either rolling it on or buying a cheap spayer and going to town. Am I Crazy or not? I want a rugged flat look that will hold up well on the trail and is easy to repair if it is nicked or scratched.

What do you guys think? I will start a thread if you guys give a good approval rating. Thanks

Yes, I have looked into Monstaliner. If I am right that stuff cost about $200 a gallon opposed to $54 a gallon. It really does look like a good finish though.

No it's not that much. I spent $315 shipped for a 2-gallon kit, which really isn't that bad considering the quality of the finish you get.

That's not so bad I guess. Was the two gallon kit plenty to do the whole truck?

2 gallons is enough, but it's very very close. I was almost short but I also did parts of my bumpers with the 2 gallons.

Check out Gillespie Coatings. They are sold through Rapco and you can order by the gallon add a little thinner and spray with a gun or order a case of spray cans. I've been thinking about going this route...

Looking into that now. Come up here with your Cruiser this fall and you can shoot a few up here. Most the ducks I hunt never go that far south. I hunt hot water so most stay all winter.

UPDATE!

I did some test samples with the Duck boat paint. It looked good and I like the colors but being an oil based paint it just not very scratch resistant. After all said and done I would be spending about $200 to paint with the duck boat paint.


SO, I went with the Monstaliner. I bought a 2 Gallon Tintable kit. I picked Desert Sand as my color. I also bought a quart of black for my rocker panel and flares. I think the two tone will look cool. After using the free shipping coupon code (should have been $27.00 for shipping) The grand total came to $341.00. I think that is a hell of a deal for a fresh new look and a tough coating that should last for years.

I will post some pics and continue this thread as I complete the project. Now to start pulling all the parts off and sanding.

Oh, I will be taking the stock roof rack off in the future. What do you think I should do with the screw holes? Cover them or put the screw back in with some silicone???
