I have a driver's side spare mount on my 78 fj40 and am wondering if anyone has ever mounted an older style passenger side mount in addition. I will be carrying 2 33x9.50s. Any suggestions?

I would recommend a custom bumper-based mount. IIRC, the spare is not aligned on the factory setups to make room for a carrier on each side.

I've seen some sweet split custom mounts, normally used for a tire on one side and coolers/jerry cans on the other, but you could do two tires just as easily.

If room isn't a major deal for you then you might consider some other options. I think I saw that Woody had a spare that mounted in the bed of his FJ. You could do that or maybe even buy a roof rack and put it up there. You could keep your stock spare mount that way. Just some suggestions...
