I am wiring up the swirching relay to a dash switch. The Automatic Charging Relay (ACR) is always on AUTO without a signal from the dash (STDP) switch. Auto mode can be overridden by the dash switch to manually combine or isolate the batteries. The switch requires power to signal the ACR.

I am considering two ways to power the control switch.

1. Run a fused power wire from the primary ACR terminal so that I will always have power to the control switch - independent of the dash fuse panel.

2. Tap into some keyed power source in the dash harness, which would provide the power to manually combine or isolate the batteries only when the key is in the ON position.

If anyone has done this, or has an opinion, I would like to hear from you.

Thanks.

I'd go with a constant power from the main battery so that the cables for Batt. #2 can be turned off and are not hot should you choose to disconnect that battery....this will also prevent the truck from having to use the key to turn the ignition switch on in an emergency...ie the cables are grounding out and welding themselves to your quarter panel. Just a thought...

This relay will provide only for the combination or isolation of the batteries. However, on relection, I believe that your suggestion is the right way to do it, so that in the event of blowing the fusible link or other fuse, etc. I can still operate the relay manually.

Thanks.

A similar topic is being discussed on the 80 Tech section.

Nice! I would like ot have been able to sit the batteries side by side in my 60... but no way. I see that you used the marine style islolator and switch.

I will post a pic when I get mine done - trying to finish wiring now.

BTW, That motor looks different than mine! ;-)
