OMG!

Eric, you're a god!

Do I genuflect and worship you at your shrine now ... or later? Or both?

Will you hear my prayers while I'm taking this SoB apart? and trying to diagnose it??

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

And you even put it so I could understand... not even hubby could/would do that for me.

He told me to buy a new one...
like I've got that kinda money, right now (esp. this time of year)...

Snipped for content :D

OMG!
Eric, you're a god!

Actually you might want to withhold praise until you get into it and see how close my memory is :whoops:

Then, if you get that far and don't find the problem, I wouldn't waste any more time on it and take your husband's advice. Spend a little time on craigslist and you should be able to find a decent used one for $75 or less. You've more than gotten your money's worth out of the old one - there's no reason to spend more than $40 or so fixing such an old machine.

I won't be home tomorrow, but I'll try to check this thread when I get a chance so if you've got more questions or get stuck, let me know.

Eric

Eric, Oh Wondrous God of the Major Appliances:

Your memory was close.

Unfortunately, the parts for my ancient old machine are discontinued.

Sears gave me grief, and, although I finally bullied a set of rollers & some belts, and installed all correctly, and then re-wired the damn dryer back ito the circuit breaker box... no go. The old motor finally died. *sigh*

So I had to buy a new dryer. That was $517.83 that I didn't have... :frown:

Plus I fried myself a tad on the 220 voltage. :crybaby:

Ih8electricity! No doubt about it!!

So the new dryer is delivered Tuesday morning, and my electrician can set it up and wire it in on Tuesday night.

But thank you so much, anyway, Eric. I learned a lot! :)

Steph

Steph,

The dryer sounds like toast. In the future though, you can always pull an electric motor and take it to a shop that specializes in rebuilding them!

They might even have a rebuilt on the shelf.

I mention that because you sound worthy of the task.

OTOH, I bet you enjoy the new dryer quite a bit!

I hope so.

It was just delivered down to my cellar this morning TOO EARLY.

Bastids woke me, after a mere 4 hours of poor sleep...

Ah well, it's here.

I need to beg, boorrow, or steal, a circular saw -- to cut up and get rid of the wooden platform that the old one stood upon... wood rotted, and the new one won't be level 'till I do this.
(prolly the cause of the early demise of my trusty old 35+year-old Kenmore dryer)

Then my electrician will come and hook it up for me.

I can do the vent hooking-up, myself.

But I'm damned if I'm gonna play any more with that damn 220V directly-into-the-circuit-breaker-box live juice again!

Imagine my surprise when my brother in law took me with him to pick up his rebuilt 1 HP table saw motor, and the cost was $80. Holy smokes!

Aaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

NOT a pleasant surprise, eh?

No, actually, I was amazed that it wasn't double that. A new motor of the same quality would have been triple or quadruple that, and a new saw would have been ten times as much.

REALLY??

Allrighty then!

I still haven't got a saw, today. (<$$)

Phoned the electrician and told him to bring one. :D
(hope like hell he does...)

Bummer... Sorry it turned out that way. Chalk it up to a learning experience?

Look, Eric...

I learned (with your kind help) how to do something else for myself.

Since I am apparently destined to be half-widow status forever... I have to do for myself.

Thanks, Eric!
I'm grateful.
