This is unbelievable...

If you're caught with two pounds of pot that you plan to sell, plan on going to jail for up to seven years.

With 500 pounds, you can kiss your completely freedom goodbye.

But head down to Southern Arizona, near the border, do the exact same thing, and in many cases you get off scott-free.

No prosecution, no penalty, no prison...in fact - not even a slap on the hand.

Not to worry, they are making us way safer, next next year legal American citizens will need a passport to even walk across the border. What was that old saying,,,, papers please. We are working as fast as possible towards having our own version of the Berlin wall, it worked so well for the USSR right?

Not to mention hassling some hardworking geologist just doing his job.

Not only that, but when a border patrol agent shoots one the drug runners in the ass when he thinks the runner has a weapon..........Border agent goes to prison for violating his rights:mad::mad::mad:

IMHO, Shut the border hard!
In spite of the Mexicans, Arabs have been caught speaking Spanish and sneaking in with things much nastier than a bit of pot.
I have heard that If we close the border, the corrupt Mexican government will have less than 3 years to live. So be it!.
Mexico has more natural resources than 90% of the Western nations. They have 5,000 miles of pristine beaches. They have high mountain cities. They have the deepest and longest well-known canyon on earth. They have billions of barrels of oil. So why is it that their people cannot make a decent living at home without leaving their families to come to a foreign country? They are the most corrupt nation in the western world.
We argue that we need the labor while our blue-collar people lose jobs. Our hotel and restaraunt bills would go up without them. Our crime levels increase as they come here and fail to find work.
The main reason that we do not close the border in spite of security concerns is that we cannot afford to support the uprising that would result while we are busy killing roaches in the Middle East. There it is, pure and simple.
Mexico is one of the few nations in the western world that does not count income through a tax system. There is no measure of personal achievement. They do not measure the placement or ownership of personal property. One family can farm the same 100 acres for 200 years, yet have no title to the land. Any developer can take the land without a fight and without any compensation to the family. The family has no ability to mortgage the land to send the children to school in order to escape the farm. There is literally no registered ownership of anything. Land, homes, cars, furniture, even children can be taken away without any compensation.
It is no wonder that many of them would rather risk their lives to sneak in here than remain in that economic hell!
Imagine your own family holding land for several generations, only to lose it without getting dime one for it! It could never happen here, but it happens every day in Mexico! Listen to the old Hispanic families here. They are the lucky ones who were here when the US took over. They can tell you about families down there who are screwed!
The real truth in the immigration debate is that closing the southern border would cost Americans several billion dollars in support of a much-needed rebellion south of the border. We simply cannot afford that right now. Maybe next decade? Who really knows.

OK. I am sorry for the ranting.
I have moved from the city where a mexican is just that. Here there is a difference between an Hispanic and a Mexican. An Hispanic inherited a home from his grandpa, and he has family south of us. He compares his lot with theirs. He knows the difference between our country and theirs. He realizes that if those who control the graft would let the common people be free of it all, then they would all be better off. He knows that control in itself limits the controller, and that graft limits the grifter. Freedom enriches everyone except for those who will not work.

You're dead-on IMO in many of your statements except this one. I know very little about Mexican taxation, but income taxation is by not even a close stretch any measure of wealth or prosperity in any nation; arguably quite the contrary. It is solely means to effectively pay interest on a fractionally-reserved bankrolled government. If indeed (which I don't know) Mexico doesn't have any formal income taxation that should actually increase individuals' economic value.

You are correct, sir. Income tax effectively reduces your useful income by about 30 %. I have lived most of my life with a combination of taxed and untaxed income. My taxed income is more useful than my untaxed income, in spite of the difference in take-home pay. I can use my untaxed money to go out for breakfast and be served eggs. But that money is useless for the things that matter most. It is just cash.
When my money is taxed it is also counted in a way that banks can follow. This allows me to leverage money that I don't yet own.
In 1992 I bought a home based on taxable income. I kept the home for 13 years. Then I borrowed a lot of money against that home. I used the money to buy another home for cash. I sold the first home and paid for both houses. I am now in a situation where I own everything in my world. My home and cars are paid for in cash. I owe nothing to anybody.
Be it ever so humble, there is no place like paid for in cash! I love my hut!
But there is a downside. The banks think that I am weird. They do not understand anyone who is not in debt. Because I do not owe, they hesitate to lend to me.
There is a lot of money to be made by buying huts right now, but I cannot borrow any money. The only reason that I cannot borrow is that I have no debt. Since I pay no mortgage, I cannot be trusted. OUCH!

The difference between us and Mexico is simple, yet complicated. When Britain placed settlements in New England, the Crown alotted certain sections of land to some lords of lesser stature. It was a way of getting rid of second and third sons of nobility. They really had no right to do so as the lands were already occupied by the natives. But they did it anyway. They measured land in squares called township and range, and measured the land down to the foot. They recorded the ownership of every square foot of land.
This is the difference between us and the rest of the world. Each section of land, for the first time in history, had a specific value. We can mortgage it, borrow against it, or burn it.
In Mexico, as in some other parts of the western world, land is not measured. Because it is not measured, a family cannot borrow money against it. They also cannot hold claim to the land without using guns or other direct methods.

I have been asked for my passport since 9/11 when I crossed in either direction. I have done it at least 20x.
