what i have - 350 chevy and a muncie 465 10 spline , i already have the AA mounts, i'll be running 36's super swampers sprung over w/ 4.11's. both front and rear springs flipped, saginaw power steering and........dual shocks (jk)

what i was going to do - mate it to a l/c 3spd with woodys adapter but it is no longer avail. at the time.

what i need from you folks is some input. i want to run the sm465 behind the 350 but i have no idea what t/c to use.

#1 I heard of people using the 203 to L/c t-case and i'm pretty sure the 203 bolts up to the sm465 then i would just need the adapter for the t-case to 203. and i would still be able to run my yota drive shafts. are there any adapters out there for this conversion?who makes them. with this aplication i wouldn't have to get new drive shafts - i might just have to get them lengthened/shortened, plus i will be doing spring reversal on both front and rear.

#2 I could run just the 205 behind the sm465 and have to get completly new d-shafts made. and still would yeild me a 52:1 crawl ratio but then i'd have to get a center mini/LC hybrid axle and that would be alot of money plus its probably a centered output..

what other options are there? i know there is a 203/205 but that is way to long and heavy for me right now and i wouldn't have the money for the adapters anyway.

I'm not trying to do the job "cheap" as in rushing it and doing a crappy job trying to save every nickle and dime i can and cutting corners. I'm just trying to do it as best i can with what i have... this will be a DD for the most part but don't mind going slow

thanks all so much for your input....

#1- AA has the answers for this...

You can get a 465 plate adapter from someone else if Brian does not have them any longer....

I would go that route...A LOT less screwing around in the end.

Good luck!

I got a plate type adapter from Classic Cruisers in Salida CO. I think they still sell them.

go np205 t/case and a fj60 rear axle so the diff is on the driver side ;)

thats what i'm doing in my 60, i'll show ya in the spring:D

i could'nt see spending the $500. for the aa adapter.
i can do this mod whole lot cheaper, should work ;)

2badfj's - you mean just run the 205 then put a 60's rear axle back there... aren't they like 3 inches longer then the 40's axle? then i would need to get a front 60 axle.is the 205 not center but offset towards the drivers side? then i would just need new driveshafts?... seems like a weird way to go

yeah it sucks that brains adapter was so good and cheap now i would have to get it from CC which many people have not liked in the past. (465-spd t/c)

If you are talking about the 465 adapter from Classic Cruisers, yes there are people that have had issues with the adapter from them....for some reason, I am not one of them. I have installed three of their plate adapters and installed their modified trans mainshaft without issue.

If you are talking about the 465 and Land Cruiser case....well that has been used for years by A LOT of people, and is a very good swap, and performs great.

Good luck!

Did you just flip the housing over and mod it a bit?

weird is right :D why be normal ;)
i'm think'n outside the box..

i'm runnin this set up in my 60.
when i tore my donnor truck apart, the rear axle was just slightly offset to the driver side. i figure i will get better d-shaft alignment that way.
once i'm done with my 40, the 60 prolly wont see much off road.

i'm getting a 465 with a 3spd adapter allready mounted to it from dallas in the next couple of days. puttin it in my 69/40. free ;)
when i get it i'll see what the adapter is like.
supposivly it's one of the originall AA adapters.

i'm thinking about going sm465 - 205 and use a mini/LC centered axle for now, then later on i would put a 203 infront of the 205 for some extra crawllll. is this a do-able option or am i pipe dreaming? would i run into any issues with the front and rear axles not lining up with the out put of the 205? i'll have 53:1 with this setup.

i'm seriously up for any suggestions...

There is a simple solution to the problem we have used a number of times without problems. Sounds kind of wierd but it works well.
Tear your rear axle down, spin the axle side for side under the rig so that the front is now in the back. Take the rear cover, now on the front, and reposition it on the back. You will need to torch or grind two notches for the ring gear in the new front of the housing. Put your 3rd back in and reassemble. Your chunk will now be offset slightly to the drivers side ( about three inches). This will not give your np205 any problems and the angle will not cause problems with the ujoints as the angle is minimal. Hit my email if you need more info on this mod and I will help you through it.

mini/lc housing is Cheep compared to cost of adapters.. I will have about $300 in mine all said and done W/ Disk Brakes.. you could do it for less if you keep the minitruck drum.. The main reason i went this route is to get rid of the POS Cruiser t-case.. Future Upgradablity ect..

more half-baked ideas.

instead of me keep bitching. i think i might just save my pennies and buy the NP203 adapter to L/C 4speed tcase. its 500 bucks and i'd be able to keep my axles and driveshafts. i beleive everything is included in the kit (-203) and the 203 bolts up to the sm465 i believe so no adapter is needed.

I hope somebody will learn from my constant gibber-gabbering ...

thanks all and cheers to cruiser headaches
-

I think you are missing one point in your plan. Yes, the sm465 was mated to the np203 but only for about one year (1974). The 10 spline 203 and factory adapter housing are kind of hard to come by. It cn be done... but may take a while to find.

sort of.....:D
in this pic https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=71925&highlight=axle+mod

your looking at the axle from the rear, diff on the left side.
1) swapping brakes from side to side, backing plates and all.
DONE,piece of cake.;)
2) notch out the housing where the ring passes thru.
still need to do that, use a gasket for a template, and grind out notch.
3) install guts,weld new perches(SOA)
4) get the chevy drive shaft cut down and have the toyota flange welded up to the drive shaft.

all in all i've got about $50. in the project so far.
$10. for new perches
$50. for a complete axle, shafts and all. :D

i dont see a problem with this mod, should work out pretty well. :grinpimp:
