Any leads on a good drive shaft shop in the Montgomery County area?

I want to have my u-joints replaced before I put a lift on my 80. Preferably a shop that I won't have to argue with when they want to put the front shaft in phase.

Thanks

You can replace your ujoints with a slot head screwdriver, two sockets, a flat rock, and a hammer. If you want to go a little higher tech use a 8" vise or a small press. If you want, you may come over and use my press.

I don't know of any place in MOCO but I went to this place in PGCO to have my front shaft lengthened when I did my ToyBox. A-1 Drive Shaft - Driveshafts * Front Wheel Drive Axles * Rack & Pinions The shaft has held up fine for three years.

Any local garage should be able to replace ujoints and there should be no need to go to a driveline specific place.

Great info, I was thinking of doing it myself since I have dropped the shafts before.

Don't they need to be balanced once you put new joints in though?

Hmm, I have never had a shaft balanced after installing new ujoints and have never heard of doing such. Anyone else ever balance a shaft after a ujoint swap?

NO I never have?

Why jump the gun and spend the money on something most likely not needing it.

Some important Q's might be; what size lift are you going with and how many miles are on the truck.

I replaced my OE ujoints in my 80series at 285k miles and it made no difference, the stock ones were good to go.

I say install the lift, drive it and see. Also, get a caster reading prior to installing the lift, and then after installing the lift to see how much correction is needed for your truck(all trucks are a little different). Having correct caster will effect that driveshaft more then those u-joints, in my opinion.
