Uh, wow.

FLAGSTAFF, AZ – A Scottsdale woman is safe after becoming lost while driving in northern Arizona over the weekend.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office received a call from a 55-year-old woman who became disoriented and lost on Saturday just after 9 p.m.

According to the victim, she traveled from Scottsdale to Flagstaff with the ultimate destination of Albuquerque New Mexico.

Once in Flagstaff she reportedly stopped at a fast food restaurant for lunch.

Investigators believe as the woman continued her journey she mistakenly drove north on US Highway 180.

The victim did have a GPS unit with her and was able to provide GPS coordinates of her location.

Coconino County Sheriff's Deputies conducted the initial response and search.

Twelve Coconino County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Volunteers located the woman in her vehicle on Arizona State Trust land south east of Red Butte, located east of Highway 64 and north of Highway 180, on Sunday at about 7:50 a.m.

The victim's vehicle was high-centered and disabled and deputies had it towed.

The victim did not require medical attention and was transported to safety.

Sounds like something my wife would do.

Hehe, I didn't get lost, but I did have to admit defeat and call the calvary once several years ago. I was stuck (for the eleventeenth time), vehicle dead, at 2am, with wifey (then GF) and my young son.
Our day had started around noon. It was gonna be a picnic, and an escape from the low desert. "Awe hun, let's just keep going down this ATV trail a few more miles." :whoops: We were once stuck side-hilled so badly, I noticed my son was sleeping while lying on the side glass window. Ya ever notice how poorly carbed trucks run at 6000 ft elevation, and tipped around 40 degrees sideways?
Learned a hard lesson in prepardness and responsibility, that day.

Stubborn or scared or both. Went until she couldnt anymore ~ you'd think the devil was on her tail!

Probably had On Star too...

There is a disconnect. On both coasts, there are call boxes every mile or so, even in "wilderness" areas. I have been there and seen it. It's amazing!
These folks connect wilderness with a park. They have no idea. They think that this is Disneyland. It is the great Southwest, a land of wonder. They are clueless.
Here, a wilderness is a place where you can die, if you are foolish enough. It is not a park. There are no rangers to save you. You are on your own.
Coasters have no concept of this. It is not within their experience. They have no idea that there are places in the US where you can be attacked by a big cat or a bear. Or where your truck can be stuck outside the assistance of AAA, or a cel phone. They have no concept that there are places where no amount of money will save you, unless you can save yourself.
These are the places where I thrive. Places where idiots die.
I like it that way!

^^^I agree. I morn the ever encroaching civilization. In just the few (14 yrs) I've lived in AZ, I've seen a definite encroachment of housing here in N. AZ. Notably, in roughly the area this gal was 'lost'. It's becoming harder to get away from maintained roads with UTV's and ATV's buzzing by. I remember being disappointed in a funny way when Pilot put their store at the junction of AZ 95 and I-40. I lost a small sense of adventure when leaving Havasu. Silly and selfish, but I like the severity of the desert, and don't want that to go away.
